stlmom
Wow! You guys are quick! Thanks for all the info. One more question/or addition rather. we are indeed looking for habited orders and also seeing as we don't have much time in St. Louis (only 2 1/2 days) have any of you visited any of these, where did you have the best visits, recieve the best advice, etc... Right now we are for sure going to visit: Carmelites of the Divine Heart of Jesus Passionists Discalced Carmelites
I would make an effort to include 1-2 more active communities such as the ASCJ's and the FSGM's, if your schedule allows. If you are more focused on the cloister, then do try for the Pink Sisters. They are in the city proper, right off I-70. Do you have someone designated to guide you around the area? Th Martyr's we are not because they attend school at my college so we know them pretty well. As for a guide. We have a couple of friends from the St. Louis area and we are pretty good with directions so it should be okay. (Besides, we like an adventure ) I think we might visit the MC's. I think that neither of us are sure on whether we are called to the cloister or not, but feel a slight pull. We are both starting SD soon and simply want to just check out, and get exposed, to some communities. Thanks again you guys are awesome! Feel free to keep offering suggestions: P.S. Does anyone know of any other orders in the KansasCity/southern NE/central/western KS area?

SaintIrene
If you are at all interested in the traditional mass, consider these first four: (Kansas City) Benedictines of Mary, Queen of Apostles (contemplative sisters, semi-cloistered, pray for priests, farm, make vestments. They are almost cloistered except that they do leave the convent for ordinations since that is their charism, to pray for priests.) Priory of Our Lady of Ephesus Attn: Mother Therese 1400 NE 42nd Terrace Kansas City, Missouri 64116 http://www.benedictinesofmary.org/ (St. Louis) Institute of Christ the King (priestly society with sisters also) St. Francis de Sales Oratory is a very beautiful church and they have public tours! http://www.institute-christ-king.org/stlouis/ This is the American candidate house for their seminarians, and they have sisters in Italy. A visit here might give you an idea about the religious order, even though the sisters don't have a location there, at least not at this time (They hope to come to the U.S. in the future). The sisters are currently non-cloistered contemplative and hope to have an active apostolate in the future, which will involve working at the parish to support the priests' work, and an apostolate for female youth. Currently their work is manual labor and they are learning to make vestments and altar linens. They also make wine and jam. I visited them so feel free to PM me with more questions etc. I know from personal experience, these sisters are wonderful! Sisters: http://www.institute-christ-king.org/vocations/sisters/ Also they have a church in Kansas City: http://www.institute-christ-king.org/kansascity/ (Lincoln, NE Diocese) FSSP - priestly fraternity, with a seminary in NE. They are hoping to form sisters who would do some type of active ministry, but I would suggest contacting them for more info) Our Lady of Guadalupe Seminary P.O. Box 147 7880 W. Denton Rd. Denton NE 68339 Tel. +1 402 797 7700 http://www.fsspolgs.org/ (Lincoln, NE Diocese) Cloistered Carmelite nuns Carmel of Jesus, Mary and Joseph 9300 Agnew Road Valparaiso, NE 68065 http://www.dioceseoflincoln.org/mauve/carmelite.htm (there is another site linked here with more pics) ------------------------------------------------------------------- (General) Institute on Religious Life for Missouri: http://db.religiouslife.com/reg_life/irl.n...00&state=MO Institute on Religious Life for Kansas: http://db.religiouslife.com/reg_life/irl.n...00&state=KS Institute on Religious Life for Nebraska: http://db.religiouslife.com/reg_life/irl.n...00&state=NE ------------------------------------------------------------------- (Oklahoma, in case you're thinking of taking another trip) The Clear Creek Benedictine monks have a website, but the sisters do not yet. Both communities have the traditional mass in Latin, and are cloistered Benedictines. http://www.clearcreekmonks.org/ The sisters are still in the beginning stages of forming, as a sister community to the monks. They do wear a black traditional habit, and you can see a few pics of them linked from the monks' site, if you really dig. Sisters' contact: Queen of Angels Convent 9582 N 387 Rd. HollyDolly
I would include the Sisters of St. Francis of the Martyr St. George in nearby Alton IL, they are practically in the backyard of the Archdiocese of St. Louis. We also have a province of the Daughters of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul and a motherhouse of the Sisters of the Good Shepherd located near the University of Missouri-St. Louis. We have a small house of the Sisters of Our Lady of Peace, a community that is not well known. We have the Visitation Sisters (second Federation) that operate an academy on their monastery grounds. Are you looking mainly at habited communities? If not, we also have the motherhouse of the Sisters of the Precious Blood in O'Fallon, MO and the motherhouse of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet and the Franciscan Sisters of Mary. Have a great visit, and if you need any more information, please PM me and I will try to help. Now where is shortnun? She went on one of these a while back. She could be of some help here too!
Who are the Sisters of Our Lady of Peace? There is a Monastery of Our Lady of Peace in Columbia,Mo who are Benedictine, is this the community you mean? Or are these sisters a different group?

I never got to discern with them ,but did write them.I would have liked to go there, but my mother had health problems, and later wound up having a stroke, so no convent of any kind for me.
