the lords sheep
I stumbled across a link with all the recent entrances to the convent/monastery for the diocese of LaCrosse, WI. It's very well done. Wouldn't it be great if every diocese did this so that a) people could pray for those who have entered and b) people could see that they weren't the only ones who were discerning or wanted to enter a convent. (which is what is so great about phatmass!) LaCrosse Entrances Enjoy! DominicanPhilosophy
Yes, that would be so wonderful and such a blessing for the faithful if every diocese had something like that. This is cool -- I know Sr. Maria Caeli of the Nashville Dominicans and Sr. Mary Gabriel and Sr. Peter Verona professed final vows this summer; I was there! Laudem Gloriae
My diocese does this - info and pictures - in the diocese's catholic newspaper - I don't think it's in the website, but haven't checked it for awhile. I just got this newspaper the other day and there was a woman who entered the Nashville Dominicans.
Domine ut Videam
That was really awesome! LaCrosse is a great Diocese with so many vocations. Plus, they have that new Shrine to Our Lady of Guadelupe. It was cool to see that someone had entered the Sisters of St. Jean too!
TradMom
+Praised be Jesus Christ! This is a wonderful idea, but I think it is best for the diocese to share the news after the person has become a Novice or taken first Vows. I know our daughter, when she left Carmel (the first one she entered) came home very sheepishly, feeling quite awful. These announcements can place a lot of pressure on people as they embark on new life. Just my opinion! TradMom
the_rev
I talked to my vocation director about it and he said, how do we know if they are still there or have left, how do we inlude everyone who has entered orders outside of the Diocese, and he had some issues about it, he said if I could come up with a way to solve the problems, we could do it. puellapaschalis
This is a wonderful idea, but I think it is best for the diocese to share the news after the person has become a Novice or taken first Vows.
I think this is a good point and that a balance needs to be found to deal with this alongside people's desire to know about and pray for those who have entered or begun seminary. Even knowing about those people, despite some orders' charisms that seek the highest level of obscurity and hidden-ness, cannot in itself be a bad thing unless taken to extremes: as secluded as religious may seek to be and no matter how little contact they wish with the outside world, the fact remains that they are a part of the worldwide church, and we are bound to each other not only by prayer but also by friendship and giving gifts and offerings. Such a document doesn't necessarily contribute to the negative feelings someone who leaves formation might have. In fact it might work the other way - if the "folks in the pew" - become more familiar with the reality of religious/priestly life (as seen from their position, that is) perhaps they can grow in their understanding. johnnydigit
yep. we aren't up to date and we need to be. many big diocese offices still have records on paper. info like this could very much help vocations, but hey, it's not surprising it's not a priority.. Laudem Gloriae
I really like the great job that the Office of Vocations for Toledo, Ohio, do for the people in their diocese who enter orders. At this page, http://www.toledovocations.com/women-in-fo...-formation.html , is the list of women in formation. I am writing the Visitation in Toledo so I am checking this page now and then for the Visitation sisters. This site/page keeps updates very often as the 2 Visitation sisters with the first profession cross on their chests were - up to a few months ago - wearing the novice habit as the other 3 and these other 3 were wearing the postulant habits. Then here is a one page announcement of Sr. Noel Faustina, Visitation, having taken her vows of Solemn Profession - http://www.toledovocations.com/images/stor...f/finalvows.pdf On this page of the site, http://www.toledovocations.com/priests/pri...overview-3.html, is for the men in formation, etc.
DominicanPhilosophy
For the Toledo page: Sr. Katherine Marie Streaker - did she just enter the Nashville Dominicans? Her name sounds familiar and I know there is a Sr. Katherine Marie (new postulant)! EDIT: Sorry, I didn't realize there was a link on the side of the page..it is she! ;-) Edited September 17, 2008 by DominicanPhilosophy
