yiannii
Well I just attended my first Opus Dei organised Mass. By this I mean it was an Opus Dei church and the priests were Opus Dei too. I love it! There was so many young people, mainly young children and young parents. So many families with more than 6 children, I couldn’t concentrate in the beginning because I was counting some families children, there must have been 13 or something. It was fantastic! I really want to look into Opus Dei more; I really like their work ethic. I don't understand why they have such a bad reputation, maybe it's because they are really strict. If people find them too strict for their liking, then they shouldn't have anything to do with them. Tomorrow I am really going to have to study hard because I haven't done much work at all this week and it's going to stuff me up. I really want to get a good VCE mark at the end of this year. It would smell of elderberries if I wasted a year of my life because I was too lazy to put some effort into my studies. I'll pray to God for strength. I haven't spoken to my Ex at all. I thought that she would have called me by now. After Mass tonight I spoke to Mads and she said that M was just confused about the way she felt about me. For the whole 6 months I thought that she was the one in the relationship who knew how she felt. I guess I'm still in shock over the fact that she broke up with me; I wasn’t expecting that at all. If anything I thought that it would have been me doing the breaking. I can't help thinking that I did stuff wrong, maybe I wasn't a good boyfriend or something. I guess with this whole situation it’s best to offer it up to God and ask for strength. Today I was really getting into the whole PhatMass thing. I think that the main reason behind it was that it was preventing me from doing my homework. So if anyone spots me posting tomorrow, please remind me that I should be doing my homework. Seeing its Good Friday, maybe I should give up the computer just for that day. I don't think that I could manage that for some reason, how sad is that. I have become so used to just turning on the monitor and having everything running right in front of me. Which reminds me, I should probably turn the computer off some time soon because it's starting to make strange noises. Does anyone know if it is bad for the comp to be left on all the time? I think I've written enough now. Please someone else post a journal entry so I don't feel weird...lol  hahaha that’s gotta be one of the funniest smiles around. P.S. For some reason I can’t get enough of the beginning of the Resurrection song from the Passion sound track. It makes me want to die and go to heaven…… or something like that anyway. That last scene in the Passion was annoying. I don’t know about anyone else but it left me wanting more of Jesus or something, like ….nah I can’t explain the feeling, but maybe someone knows what I mean. Iacobus
yiannii, I think people don't like OD because they are strict and are Catholic and don't like sin. All of these run counter-current to today society. People call anything sticrt OPRESSIVE and TOLARTIRAN when it really is just more focused on living good lives. Plus there is some anti-Catholics out there (GASP!) who don't like anything Catholic. Than you have the honorably Dan Brown telling every one in the world in his "great" book The da Vinci Code the Opues Dei isn't the work of God but a bunch of hitman monks working for an insane bishop who reports to the pope who hates women and wants to rid the Church of all of their influnces. ARGH! Some OD people have died from their penace (at least I think some have) becuase of too much blood loss or infection. These have been few and isolated. Sometimes people go overborad with things and end up hurting themselves. Does this reflect on the person or Opus Dei? BTW, you need to do your chores. Sounds like a fun day, Katy. God bless. let_go_let_God
Thursday April 8, 2004 <First one> Let's see, today was a bit exciting. In my second hour class, I work youth service for one of the science teachers in the school, and after walking into his classroom, I asked him, "How many Freshmen are you going to fry today?" I was being sarcastic because I saw that he had the static electricity balls set up and was going to do a demo with static electricity. Him being the teacher that he is, and responding to my sarcasim said, "As many as I can." So class continued and I watched and just chuckled watching the other students being electrified on their own free will. Man I hope I wasn't that stupid when I was that little. The day went on as normal and I got really good news from my yearbook advisor, we're going to press 2 weeks early!!! That made me really happy because I don't have to devote any more time to the yearbook and I can fully devote myself to the "Senior Slide Show" which is a display put on during the graduation cerimony. So things went well untill I got home, who knew I could botch making hard boiled eggs? Anyway, I fixed it, I hope. so that's about it for know. Untill later, LGLG
immaculata
yiannii, I'm just starting to get invovled with Opus Dei, too! We don't have a center around here (the closest is two hours away in St. Louis), but we have monthly Evenings of Recollection (coming up next Tuesday! ) I've been really impressed w/ OD, especially the writings of St. Josemaria Escriva!! It's a wonderful organization that I hope I can learn more about. My best friend's family is real into it, I think his dad is a numerary or supernumerary (I can never keep track of which one is married and which isn't) and he's the one who first introduced me to OD. voiciblanche
[quote name='yiannii' date='Apr 8 2004, 07:34 AM'] Well I just attended my first Opus Dei organised Mass. I read a book (well, I didn't finish it) that involved Opus Dei. It was called The Da Vinci Code. One thing people don't like about them is this thing they have called "corporal mortification". Part of this is a spiked "cilice" belt that cuts into the flesh of the wearer. It is supposed to be a tribute to God. It really exists, it wasn't just part of the book or anything. And about the computer, no, it's not a good idea to keep the computer on all the time. It can mess up your internet access, and it will make your computer run pretty slow after a while. I didn't say it was a good book; I couldn't even finish the thing...Either way, even if people don't die from losing to much blood, I don't think it's a good idea to physically hurt yourself as a penance... Does the Pope or anybody say anything about this?
yiannii
The Da Vinci Code is baaaaaaaad Yes I have heard of this "corporal mortification" but it isn't big where I live. In fact all the Cooperators I know of have nothing to do with it. I think that "corporal mortification" is very small in Opus Dei but of course if it can be used to make them look bad then I guess it's perfect. The Da Vinci Code is confusing a lot of Christians about the nature of God. Some work of fiction eh!

voiciblanche
April 14, 2004 Whew, I just got back from school. I'm not feeling like I have much to talk about...I went to Mass today, lol. It's sort of funny how you can be like half-awake at 9 in the morning one day and buzzing around at 9 the next! I usually get up around 9 on the weekend, but today, for instance, I was singing the welcoming hymn at Mass at 9...weird. I am really killing time, or space, I guess, by doing this. I have to go to this ceremony thing with two classmates in May, but I don't really want to go. Because of this, my vice-principal wants to strangle me. I need to go do some fast talking to convince my father to drive me to the Youth 2000 this weekend...so, that's it for this.
