the_rev
WEll I was wondering if you like this act of contrition. Here it is: O my God, I am sorry for all my sins, because they offend you My God, who is all good and deserving of all my love. Today I have confessed my sins, and now ask of your forgiveness, so I can move on with my life, I confessed my sins today because I fear the loss of heaven, and dread the pains of hell, but also because I want your forgiveness, since my sins offend you my lord. I promise with your help to sin no more, to do penance, and to do whatever you ask of me. Amen
Lil Red
confession, mostly. but if i'm talking with an older parishioner, i call it reconciliation.
morostheos
I've always thought of it as confession was what you do to recieve the sacrament of reconciliation. i.e. I'm going to confession so I can be reconciled with God. So I use both terms, but in different senses. *woah* I just realized this is my 232nd post, and I'm the 232nd member!! Cool I feel like I just won a prize. jasJis
I use both to explain different senses. To prefer one over the other is too simplistic as each word is opposite sides of the same coin. Confession is what I do to receive the grace of reconcilliation. I prefer the old act of Contrition, from the '50's, in the Saint Andrew Missal. "O my God, I am sorry and beg pardon for all my sins. I detest them above all things, because they have deserved Thy just punishments, because they have crucified my loving Saviour Jesus Christ, and, most of all, because thy have offended Thy infinite Goodness. And I firmly resolve, by the help of Thy grace never to offend Thee again, and carefully to avoid the near occasions of sin." I fell in love with the Sacrament of Reconcilliation whith the last part of the 2nd sentence and the last sentence. It tells God you are sorry for your sins because they are really agains Good in the world, and then humbly asks God for His help. Asking God for help and knowing He will give it is what it's all about for me. To me, it's like playing Golf and getting unlimited 'Mulligans' (start over), but each time, God not only wipes the slate clean, but moves you 1' closer to the green. Driving is for show, putting is for Dough. God's grace moves us ever closer to Him so even spazoids like me can make the easy putt. VeraMaria
hmmm...why does it matter? I say confession...just because that's what people call it....although when it's on the parish calendar for the First Communion class it's called "Reconciliation" I like both...they mean the same thing... Jericho923
I am with the reconciliation crew. I like confession because it tends to be more orthodox and reminds me of our great Tradition, but what is really happening is our reconciliation with God and His Church. Everybody have a blessed week, off to the CFR's in NY.

willguy
Reconciliation describes the end, while confession describes the means. I agree that confession sounds more humbling.
supernerd
::shrugs:: Either works. I just normally say confession.

qfnol31
I say Reconciliation because I Confess and that's my part (well, I'm sorry, truly promise not to do it again, etc.) but that leaves Jesus out of the picture. When I confess I'm reconciled to Him! Plus I'm reconciled with the Church as well. Oh well, Confession is cool, but it's only my part. Actually, tangent time. A sacrament is an encounter with God and so Reconciliation really emphasizes that encounter. Okay, I'm done for now.
DemonSlayer
I prefer reconiciliation, because that's what it mean, reconciling your relationship with Him.
