Lounge Daddy
SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - Google Inc is set to introduce on Tuesday a new Web browser designed to more quickly handle video-rich applications, posing a challenge to browsers designed originally to handle text and graphics. Google officials confirmed news of long-rumored plans to offer its own Web browsing software, entitled Google Chrome, in a company blog post after it mistakenly mailed details of the project to a Google-watching blog, called Blogoscoped.com. The company statement calls the move "a fresh take on the browser" and said it will be introducing a public trial of the Web browser for Microsoft Corp Windows users on Tuesday. Details can be found at tinyurl.com/gchrome/. The Internet search leader is also working on versions for Apple Macintosh users and for Linux devices, Google said. ... Once available for testing on Tuesday, the browser can be downloaded at www.google.com/chrome/. And Google has been pretty good at supporting Ubuntu versions of it's products, so that shouldn't be too far off--I hope.

Excelsior1027
Anyone else download and try it yet? I did and it seems to work pretty well. I like the combination of the search bar and address bar. Seems pretty fast, too. Any thoughts?
SaintOlaf
It's pretty fast, not quite as fast as Opera with text and raw data from what I've seen so far today (I've been using it a few hours today). The biggest thing with it, is it's incredibly fast and efficient with video, it loads and executes video and audio pages almost twice as fast as Opera ever did. Lounge Daddy
I'm digging it so far. I plan on using it for a week and seeing how it holds up.
Excelsior1027
I'm using it on and off; surfing around the phorum here goes pretty fast with it. Unfortunately, it just doesn't have all the stuff (add-ons and such) that Firefox has so I'll probably end up going back to that; I've gotten used to not seeing any ads, haha. Who knows, maybe in the future Chrome will have plenty of good add-ons, too. On another note, I downloaded Internet Explorer 8 Beta 2 and...well...I'm not really impressed. Doesn't seem that much different than IE 7. Edited September 3, 2008 by Excelsior1027

I really do like the look/layout of it though, and it seems to be performing pretty well so far. It passes the Acid2 test but not Acid3. But it's still in beta so they still have time to make sure it can handle that by the time of release.
Lounge Daddy
I just like how very simple and fast it is--and the effort to eliminate a lot of clutter and flash. Efficiency and speed; that's all I ask.
