Paladin D
Anyone know much about Fr. Andrew Greeley? I've seen his name here and there, but don't know how orthodox his works are. Currently reading a book for my 'Religion in America' class, and the Catholicism section is written by him, and it paints both a positive and negative view of the Church. Madame Vengier
Not, not, NOT orthodox. He's been around for a long time. He's very political (liberal). Just not good stuff. He has a website. Google him.
CatherineM
My boss likes to quote him, and she's a very liberal nun, so, I'm thinking not.
IcePrincessKRS
He also writes smarmy novels.

During the classroom Q&A session, this'll be my chance to refute some of his claims.

I may be spelling her wonky name wrong but if you are familiar with her, I would go so far as to say Fr. Greeley is her male counterpart. It's about as bad as it gets. But the only dif is that Fr. Greeley actually smiles. Not sure if his smile reaches his eyes, but he doesn't have quite the same angry look as Sr. Joan is famous for.
cmotherofpirl
I qualify his novels as soft porn, they are good to start bonfires with.
Saint Therese
I've heard nothing good about him. I love reading Catholic novels but I refuse to read anything by him, if that tells you something.

journeyman
I believe he is still a priest in good standing (Chicago) he was an ordained priest who was then educated to become a "professorial" type - I believe his specialty is sociology and statistics . . . the Church is one of his ongoing studies At some point in time ('70s?) Cardinal Bernadin had Greeley and another priest named Kennedy on his staff . . . big blow up . . . Kennedy withdrew from the priesthood and married . . . Greeley writes academic studies and novels . . . and the two of them still don't speak I wonder if he writes novels to put a human face on his sociology and statistics I have heard that the proceeds of those novels fund a) a scholarship program for inner city schools in Chicago and b) a chair in Roman Catholic Studies at the University of Chicago Also from Chicago: Father Phleger who substitutes for Rev. Jeremiah Wright In a world that is increasingly grey . . . he appears to be an archetype of the Irish-American parish priest

Unfortunately, I have read thousands of Romance novels in mhy life and he so can't write soft porn. I will say I did get rid of them all and I do not buy them or read them anymore. No sirreee. Not me. I only read spiritual stuff and an occasional murder mystery or good teen sci/fi fantasy.
