:ohno:

Yeesh. And on another note, I think I bit off more than I can chew when I joined these forums. It's like they don't listen to facts...

Prayers please :(

Edit: Darn it! wrong section! Move this please :P lol[/quote]

I've been looking at the thread you posted.

I can see you're there to talk about what you believe, and there is other Catholics on it as well. Just a piece of advice. I was told this when I was young myself, and it is easier said than done, but some people are jerks, so don't pay attention to them.

The way I see it, God uses us as conduits of blessings or curses for the people around us. If someone truly means us harm, God will avenge. If someone truly means to bless, God will bless them. So, don't fret. Let God deal with the jerks of the world, if they truly mean us harm!

The Myspace religion forum is an unmoderated pit of hate and venom for all religions... yet I ... can't...pull...myself...away..... on a plus side, a few people have added me because they like what I post there to defend the faith.

Now that's faith.

To paraphrase Obi Wan, forget your physical self, and stretch out to God, your strength, your wisdom, your life, and you will take steps to a much larger world where anything is possible!

I wouldn't touch anything called Christian Teen Forums with a ten foot pole. I'd rather talk to hard-core atheists and agnostics, who probably make just about as much sense. Few kids at that age are mature enough to listen to reasonable arguments and understand them without losing control of their emotional attachment to whatever they were raised in or hurt by or have decided is right and wrong. Especially on an Internet forum, which just draws them out of the woodwork where they would normally be relatively dispersed and easier to handle in any "real life" social setting.

I think if you're going to continue there, you have to be highly selective in the discussions to participate in, and possibly only communicate privately with those who are capable of a conversation (i.e. listening then responding) or in threads that are closed to comments from others. It's like playing poker... gotta know when to hold 'em and know when to fold 'em :smokey:

Another good idea with any discussion/debate is to share your expectations up front, along with recognizing that neither of you is likely to change the other person's mind. Of course, both of you would like to convince the other, but you need a more realistic goal that you can accomplish in any interaction, like helping each other learn the other's perspective. It sounds like watered down ecumenism, but much to the chagrin of some orthodox Catholics, the only path to true conversion is through a free will decision.

That's a good bit of advice...I'll be trying that from now on. Thank you.

It's crazy over there, lol. I don't feel like it's doing much good to help them understand, though some of the Catholics there told me my posts make sense, so I must be doing something right! :P It's like everything turns into a Catholic debate there, and I have no idea why.

Which is why I've learned to avoid on-campus 'Christian' organizations.
