The spiration of the Holy Spirit from the Father and the Son as from a single principle is such an awesome dogma! I'm so glad that it was added to the Nicene-Constantinoplitan Creed. I think a proper view of the trinity will require both sides working together. I did write a paper on the subject. I do not think we can "blend" them because it would create serious problems, if anything we need to understand the trinity first as mystery and then understand two parts that appear conflicting, but are possibly apostolic, if not patristic, in nature.
