Ash Wednesday
So in my Tut fever I'm watching something about the Tut mummy's curse -- something I've heard about before -- and I wanted to know, can objects be cursed? Are there such things as curses? Can the demonic attach themselves to objects? You hear stories like the Hope Diamond and other such things and I've always wondered about that. Or people bringing home objects and paranormal activity happening in a home afterwards -- for example, I've heard stories about people bringing home voodoo dolls or pagan statues from abroad and later down the road they're calling in a priest. What say you, phat clan?
Selah
Well, if an object can be blessed, it can most certainly be cursed. I would say that they may have that ability, but only as much as God would allow.
CatherineM
They found that there are fungi that get trapped in tombs, that can cause trouble when we open these tombs. As to the Hope Diamond, I think that anything that can be greedily lusted after can cause trouble. If you've ever had something that you wanted so bad that you made compromises to get, and then regretted later, you know how that can mess up your head. I think things can be blessed and cursed, but I think things get cursed by our actions, like houses where gruesome murders happen, or things that are fought over to the point that they aren't worth having anymore. Ash Wednesday
Yeah, I think in many cases things can be explained rationally, though it did remind me of the stories related to objects being brought into houses, and that did make me wonder. My grandfather used to have a German helmet and, I think, a bayonet that his brother in law had brought back from WWII. I am unclear if he was the one who killed the German soldier or if he'd just picked it up... in any event, for years weird things would happen. Not constantly, but every now and then they'd think that they saw things like someone go into the kitchen but no one would be there. There are a couple other creepy stories about it that I won't other with because it would take up too much time. But, one day after my grandmother passed away her siblings came and cleared out a ton of stuff that had been grandma's, her mother's, her brother's... her brother got the helmet... and ever since he took it the weird phenomena has stopped at my grandpa's house and started up at my great-uncle's house. I don't know how it happens, I just know that I think it does happen.
Guest KevinSymonds
Objects can most certainly be cursed. Read Fr. Gabriele Amorth's book "An Exorcist Tells His Story" as well as the sequel "An Exorcist: More Stories." He writes on how cursed objects are actually vomited up during the course of an exorcism. No joke. -KJS

Many times the patient will vomit, with nothing clearly present, then some sort of artifact will appear in the waste later on. Real 'voodoo' stuff that you see in a movie and laugh at. Little bundles of hair, teeth, gross gross things. This stuff is dangerous too. It has to be disposed of correctly.

Kitty
Yeah, I believe in cursed objects. I think sometimes an angry ghost or spirit who is not yet released from the world can embed itself in objects, perhaps ones that belonged to it during its lifetime. I work for a theatrical prop shop, and recently we received some donations. One of the donations was a cursed Ouija board. Ash Wednesday
It's a universally understood thing among people with common sense that ouija boards are bad news. A large number of malevolent paranormal disturbances occur in a home after someone has dabbled with a board. Growing up, my cousins and I used to play around with the board manufactured by Parker Brothers. It doesn't matter if it's just a manufactured game -- all it takes is intent to contact spirits. People can use crude things like pieces of paper with writing on it as far as that goes. I have heard some pretty crazy stories, even living here in irreligious England. I look back and I'm relieved that nothing happened to us, because we were so careless and stupid. We really didn't know any better at the time, we were never really taught that these things were dangerous or a sin. In fact, I brought it to school and my teacher didn't even make an issue of it -- and outside of public school, he went to my church and was one of my religious education teachers! I had friends who were Baptists and I'm wondering why they never said anything, either. I guess at that age as teenagers, we cared more about our hair and clothes than we did religion. I guess members of my family and I were protected by the fact that most of us were baptised and taking the sacraments. The first time I encountered one was at a friend's Halloween party. Big name in his local megachurch he goes to. I was the 'party pooper' who wouldn't participate. And glad I didn't. I pontificate about them whever it comes up. I think my friends think I'm paranoid. Oh well. I'll be the one that helps 'em find an exorcist. I've heard from some very good sources that he exists in our diocese, which is encouraging.
Seven77
Fr. Corapi talks about the Sacramental Principle and how satan takes that and flips it---satanic "priests" curse cocaine at black "masses" and curse objects. The curse attaches to objects cursed. Spiritual warfare is very much a reality. But "they are more afraid of us than we are of them".
