MissyP89
I wouldn't say it's Satan, but it's definitely a difficult thing to do. I had to fight every urge in me to just turn around and walk out of the church when I went for the first time in years, after NEVER confessing honestly in my life. It was like confessing for the very first time. I'm going tomorrow too, HCF--I'll say a prayer for you, if you will for me--I still get the jitters! Lioness For Christ
I'll pray for you both.. I hope to go tomorrow too.. To clarify.. when I said it could be the devil it's because doubtless he doesn't want anyone to go.. To be clean again.. but yeah.. it is jittery.. I wonder why we all feel this way? Jesus knows our every sin anyways... *scratches head*
Vincent Vega
I get the same cycle of feelings every time. Reluctancy to go, nervousness as I'm walking in to the room, wonderful joy and relief upon being absolved. It would be nice to not have to go nearly every week, but I suppose it is good to make myself go.
HisChildForever
I am going to the parish in the next town, because...well, maybe I'd feel more comfortable. I went to my parish a couple of months ago but I feel like trying out this one. So that is sort of consoling - that I don't know the priests. At school, I work fairly closely with the priests on campus. Which means they all know my voice, so even going behind the screen doesn't keep them from knowing it's me. But, I've found that honestly... they don't think much of it. It's sometimes even kind of helpful, because they are able to give advice unique to you because they know you. I always think that if anything, they probably don't look down on you (well, they're not allowed to), but maybe even think more of you for being able to see your own faults and having the courage to bring them to the Lord through him. Also, they probably admire the youth who do go to Confession, since nowadays many people see the youth as very secular and whatnot.

It's the oddest thing in the world, but it softens you in a way, too, knowing they want to see you be all that God desires you to be.
Vincent Vega
I think we'll be seeing a rise in the numbers of the Church as our generation grows up, though. I think the spirituality and traditionalism being exibited by our contemporaries is encouraging and will probably bear fruit. A funny story: we have confession from 1630-1715 (mass starts at 1730). I walked in at about five after because there are usually not many people waiting. There was a line about 10 long, mainly young people. Well, it comes to be about 1725 and there are three left in the line. There's an adolescent girl, then an older woman, then myself. The older woman says something to me about giving up, so she leaves and goes and sits. I figured we were going to have to wait till next week, especially since there's this one authoritarian woman at our church (I think she thinks she's a priest too, sometimes. ) (I really don't even know what she does - she doesn't work for the parish...I don't even think she's an EM) and told us we were probably going to have to sit down. So when the third to last person comes out, she rushes in to see if she can tell us to sit down. She comes out, looking a bit disappointed and a bit perturbed, and tells us to make it quick. Needless to say, that was probably the quickest proper confession (in the actual reconciliation room) I've ever had (the one I did in the parking lot that one time was very quick...that's another story ). And sorry for the abhorrent amount of parenthetical comments!

In fact, I've seen a huge increase from last year to this year alone. It's amazing. And I think it's a trend that will continue. Our generation doesn't want the watered down "Jesus-loves you!!!!"-only type of faith. They want the Truth and they want the deep stuff.

At the same time, it is consoling that he knows me well enough to give good advice. The screen is still good-I find it easier to open up without having to worry about unconsciously reacting to his facial expressions as I say my confession. Sometimes, it works both ways! My priest was sooo tired once and couldn't help yawning...I think he almost fell asleep. I couldn't help smiling! Priests are human too

Traces of these things are already being observed. As you said, people our age are tired of the watered-down stuff. They like tradition and serious spirituality and mysticism. I think we're going to see the end of the 'guitar' age and the rise of the second 'organ/chant' age.
