frozencell
God uses wicked men to work His plan all the time. This does not make them excused from their actions or make them right. God uses circumstances to His will, but these things are still punishable because it's our sin that led us to a point in our life where we would act like that anyhow. frozencell
Pilate came off as a sympathetic character in the movie.
I have heard this also. I haven't seen the movie yet, but I have read the Book!!!! Hee hee.... Anyhow, I watched a thing about this and it said that Pilate didn't want to kill Jesus. He couldn't find anything to incriminate Him with, but he was already in trouble with Ceasar. He was a very controversial leader and disobeyed those above him all of the time. He did what he had to do to protect his political career, and this was a selfish thing to do. I think that once you understand that then you realize that what Pilate did wasn't a nice or sympathetic thing at all. Bad Pilate! BAD!!!
FX2
The thing is though, I think Pilate did what any man put into that circumstance would have done. The Jews were pressuring him, it was the mob against one man. Jerusalem at that time was a hot spot in the Roman empire and even in the movie he said if there was another rebellion it was his death. I dont see the whole picture yet, weather he was a bad man or not, but for some reason, i pity him.
jasJis
I saw Pilate as clearly pursuing his own agenda. There was no self-sacrifice in him at all. No willingness to do what's Right, even if it caused him loss or penalty. That's what Claudia meant about Truth not being able to be explained to those who won't hear Truth. You either recognize Truth (Right) or you refuse to recognize it. Pilate depicted our most grevious sin, that of apathay towards other's sufferings unless it personally affects us. Pilate had the ability to make choices. All choices have consequences. Pilate didn't want any consequences that would affect him negatively. As Christians, we recoginze the voice of Truth that tells us we need to accept the consequences of doing Good in the world, even if we suffer persecution for it. God thwarts the plans and efforts of evil and causes a Good outcome from them, much to the anger and frustation of Satan. God allows evil because He forbids Himself from thwarting our free will. God uses our mistakes, and even the plans of Satan, against evil and to promote Good. That's the point and the fruition of the Crucifiction of God Himself as Man. Though evil thought it accomplished much by causing Jesus to be crucifed, even more Good was accomplished as Jesus defeated even death, battles what we fear, and shows us the Glory of God as Victor in All. the_rev
I read in a book, that through out the experience of Christ, Pilate converted to Christianity!
