I've never found the CCC that hard to understand. Really, if you're just looking for one thing, then you're only going to be reading a page or two. There's honestly not that much difficult language or concepts.
I probably should try reading it all the way through... unfortunately I haven't done that yet. Although I've read some chapters fairly extensively.
It makes the world seem so simple and easy to live in. :D

Since we're on the subject, I might as well mention that I never actually knew what the Baltimore Catechism was. Can anyone enlighten me?

Deb, with all respect, I wholeheartedly disagree with what you said above (as quoted).

According to Pope John Paul II in Catechesi Tradendae, Theology and Catechetics are separate fields. Theology has no place in Catechesis. The reason for this is very simple: Theology is speculative, Catechetics is not. One learns the faith in Catechetics, they do not learn it in Theology (they speculate upon the faith).

The purpose of the Baltimore Catechism was just what its name says--it was designed for catechetical use, not theological. Thus, it is improper to state that the Baltimore Catechism is "Theology all dumbed down."

The Baltimore Catechism's beauty lay precisely in its ability to precisely and accurately communicate the fundamentals of the faith. If I am not mistaken (and dare I say), we have more ignorant Catholics now with a much thicker Catechism than we did with a thinner one that taught the fundamentals more succinctly.

Forgive me if I misunderstood your words or their intent.

Peace!

A good source to learn the catechism is the Luke E. Hart series of the Catholic Faith by Peter Kreeft. It is a series of small booklets that act as a great compendium to the CCC, it goes through everything, section by section. You can get them for free through the Knights of Columbus.
