I Find This Creepy

Doll Therapy can be really useful. Don't underestimate it's power at healing and calming.

I have seen it "in action" while I worked in the nursing home. Some of the patients would just be extremely anxious. Because of this they would not sit still to eat their dinner, and would often end up falling.

A couple of patients in particular come to mind. One was an elderly woman. She had a doll. It was not real looking at all but it was her "baby" none the less. She preoccupied herself with that doll and it probably saved her from injuries that would have come about if she tried to get up. She would "burp" the doll and talk to it.

Another was a male patient. He did not hold a doll all the time like the other patient but once in a while when he would be yelling for no reason we would give him a doll and it calmed him down. He held that thing like a real child and talked to it.

I can see how it could be useful therapy for women who have lost children and are unable to have any children IN A HEALING PROCESS but not in a premanent way. I don't think that it is healthy for the women to carry it around in public but to hold the doll in the privacy of their home during their healng journey I can understand.

I can see doll therapy in that setting, and I don't think they were really disputing that, but to replace people with a toy cannot be a good thing, and that's what a lot of these seem to be used for.

I find it amusing; the lady I care for would always ask me what the women with dolls at the nursing home were doing last year, and give me looks like, "Are you kidding me?" This year, she can't be parted from these two stuffed bears, and will give her stuffed giraffe a kiss every morning. :hehe: It's adorable.

Lioness For Christ

I think it's sad and scary.. Especially the part in the article where it said some have those instead of kids... It's like a "convientent" replacement of real humans.. "convienent" because when one is bored, they can put it where they wish.. Disturbing...

Ash Wednesday

I wonder how reborners feel about changing poopy diapers, not sleeping, and getting barfed on? Or is that not part of the experience?

Here's a thought for these women: How about adopting a real actual human baby abandoned at birth that could actually benefit form your love and attention? You know, instead of going to the store and buying this...

Come on. I know somebody other than me had to be thinking of this.

Would you believe me if I said, I've never actually seen any of the movies, I just know what they're about? It's true.
