For The Guys: Woman's Beach Volleyball, Sin, What Is Lust?

So I was watching the Olympics and women’s beach volleyball came on. I had my back towards the tv and turned around. “Whoa…those girls are...”, thought i.

I watched but *surprise* I don’t particularly like volleyball.

“I’m just looking at their faces/I’m thanking God for their beauty” and “I’m not thinking of using these woman as objects”…

What do yall think? I can't say if was lusting (i didn't want to use these beautiful women...i felt that i was going to watch and even overcome lust) but then why did i want to watch?

I find it interesting that the men wear jerseys and are modest, while the woman are allowed to be practically nude.

age the magnificent

Missy, don`t forget the ultra random close ups of various sandy body parts when the girls are playing. my mom said she even saw closeups of them picking a wedgie.

i don`t find that very 'professional' =/ it made me change the channel

A]Beach volleyball looks like lots of fun.
B]The participants are all healthy looking people.
C] Watching world class competitors in any field [other than chess or golf yuck] is usually very interesting.

There is nothing wrong with watching beach volleyball as long as you are not drooling or thinking about taking the participants to your bed. But if it causes you trouble turn it off.

Ditto with men's water polo.

If your eye causes you to sin pluck it out. If beach volleyball causes you to lust don't watch it. If you can watch it without lust then fine. But I would bet most men can't. They should be dressed while playing it. Better to watch basketball.

B-volleyball is tough to watch. Or should I say too enjoyable to watch.

It's true. I try to avoid watching it and even women's swimming at times.

exactly.

The key is that if it causes YOU to sin, then YOU need to make the actions that will keep you from sinning. The main problem in this situation is often times people feel that they need to tell other people to do the same. An example is it does not bother me. I watch the olympics with my wife my dad and his girlfriend. (she is a native from China so we trash talk) the gymnastics and the volleyball and swimming do not bother me. We make fun of how they try and sexualize some events. That does not mean for a moment I considered changing the channel. I played basketball at a very high level and I know that some people have an issue with things and it causes them to lust, but that cannot take away from the focus of the event itself.

Sure, the men swimmers are half naked, but did anyone see the 4x 100 last night??? WOW

The point being is that to a large degree things like this need to be handled on an individual bases. If it causes you to lust, avoid it. If it does not then do not worry. But if it causes you to lust you do not need to justify that feeling by condemning the object itself or others that watch it.

I'm too intimidated by Olympic volleyball players to be attracted to them.

But seriously, I think the best strategy is to focus on the athletics, rather than not focusing on the lust. Focusing on sin avoidance is focusing on sin, so focus on a virtue instead.

If you are watching beach volleyball and find yourself falling into lust, just imagine one of those girls spiking the ball into your face...or worse.

Ditto, and you might even try imagining your mom's head over those bodies....that should end all lust right then and there!

the thing is---in all honestly i don't care about that sport's scores or stats...there was no need to watch it. at the same time i struggled not to objectify them and attempted, poorly, to watch solely for athletic value. *btw, i watched in the living room with family.

i understand now that (for me) when it's on and can be helped---i change the channel (other sports were on). watching could be a near occasion of sin.

swimming does not tempt me that way.

thanks phamily!
