More specifically, why wouldn't God be interested in the Flames? ;)

Sorry, I didn't even watch hockey till the Stanley Cup stuff was happening, and I only ACTUALLY watched the last game. I'm only a Red Wings fan because of Roamin, too.

AHH! That makes it worse. :(
I watched it... dare I say...? religiously, all season. ;)
Well almost. I missed a couple games because of work.

I hate to make this topic go serious, but I think that God probably DOES care about sporting events. Not in a human way, but there are people who are affected by the outcome of games, and so I would guess He would be interested in that.

Also,If we only prayed about and for things that we thought God thought were important, we would certainly limit the personal relationship we have with God.

God is not more important than a basketball game.

Also, I am pretty sure that this hockey season he is going to be tied up helping the Oilers....

Sorry...but if you had gotten to me first, I might've not cheered for the Red Wings. It was peer pressure, really.

Well, it's one thing to pray to God about sporting events, and it's another to yell at other people that God is on your side...

I'm always cringing a bit when someone claims that God is on their side, be it sports, politics, or whatever.

:ohno: really don't like it.

(Except, of course, when it's Dominicans vs. Jesuits.)

:lol_roll:
I had a theology prof. who used to teach at a high school and was also a wrestling coach there. He said he refused to pray before the matches, because he didn't think it was appropriate to pray for God to give an advantage to their side.

I have to say, one of my favorite movie quotes EVER comes from the movie, "The Trouble With Angels," where this guy from a secular high school is arguing with the Mother Superior who is in charge of the Catholic high school. He says, "We have the best educational minds in the country on our side!" And Mother Superior says, "And we have God on ours!" :hehehe:

I went to a Catholic high school and that chant popped up quite a bit, regardless of the sport.

To answer STM, I did not find it appropriate and never chanted with the crowd when that chant was used.

Another great one was when we played the all boys Jesuit school in basketball... We weren't allowed to take our shirts off, so they'd take theirs off and start chanting "Take your shirts off"...we responded with "We've got girls yes we do, we've got girls how 'bout you?"... They didn't really know what to say to that one...

I guess that's only fair. They need all the help they can get.
Just so's you know, we're still gonna beat you! ;)

Also, since someone mentioned it...
I've always heard little references to the Jesuits. Never really understood, but what's 'wrong' with them? Of course wrong isn't really the nicest word, but you understand.

They were supposed to repress the Protestants (just as the Dominicans were supposed to repress the Cathars... have you seen a Cathar lately? :)) )

Apart from that... it's just a friendly rivalry as far as I know. The Jesuits have had some obedience problems, but they're far from the only ones, so that can't be it. There's certain nothing wrong with their founder. St. Ignatius rocks.

Friendly rivalry was usually the indication I got. :)
Are they really liberal or something? That would explain a lot.
