awyers
I am going on a road trip from Toronto through Pittsburgh, all the way across Pennsylvania to Stockbridge MA then through the Adirondaks and back to Canada. Any suggestions about nice churches or religious orders/shrines etc. that I should visit?? Thanks! Allison

SisterAli
I believe Stockbridge, MA is where the Divine Mercy Chaplet Shrine is...or St. Faustina...there is some Divine Mercy connection in Stockbridge I am almost positive. I'm sure if you googled it you could find it. I just checked and yes it is the National Shrine of Divine Mercy...here is the homepage. TradMom
Dear Allison, Praised be Jesus Christ! I'm not sure what route you will be taking, but I have put some links here for you to review. I believe you have indicated in the past that you are more interested in apostolic orders (as opposed to cloistered) so I concentrated on that. However, I did sneak a few cloistered orders in here...sometimes it is great just to visit, spend some time alone with God, pray in silence and decompress in the midst of holiness! The Abbey of Regina Laudis offers great hospitality and is very welcoming; they are a very unusual order - filled with women from a huge variety of backgrounds - doctors, lawyers (their Foundress was a Surgeon!), teachers, writers, artists, etc. They have some CD's out of their chant - their first one "Women In Chant" was very successful and was well received. Being able to listen and be them during the Divine Office is very healing and refreshing. I have gone on a couple of retreats there when I just needed to get away and find some peace. I really hope you will be able to visit them. I have more ideas as well, but I think this should be a good list for you. Let me know if you need more information! trace85
Hi Allison! I live about 10-15 minutes outside Philadelphia. This September I am entering the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary (IHMs) in Immaculata, PA. Immaculata is about 40 minutes west of Philadelphia. Some others have given you their website already but here it is again: www.ihmimmaculata.org There is a Padre Pio Shrine (padrepio.org) up closer to Allentown, but I definitely think you should visit the Saint John Neumann Shrine in Philly itself (www.stjohnneumann.org). If you have any questions let me know!! Enjoy your trip! God Bless, Tracey
TeresaBenedicta
If you get to Emmitsburg, Maryland (just about ten minutes south of the Pennsylvania border) you'll want to check out: The National Shrine Grotto of Our Lady of Lourdes (which is right above Mount St. Mary's University & Seminary, celebrating its 200th anniversary) The National Shrine of St. Elizabeth Anne Seton (just a few minutes away from the Grotto) Highly recommended! And if you do-- say hi to me at the university!

stlmom
If you can, do stop in at St. Emma Monastery in Greensburg, PA. The sisters there built a new chapel a few years ago. I don't know when you're going to be in Pennsylvania, but the 74th annual pilgrimage to the Shrine of Our Lady of Perpetual Help will take place Aug. 31 at the motherhouse of the Sisters of St. Basil (Byzantine Catholic) in Uniontown, PA. This is my old home town, about an hour south of Pittsburgh.
Starets
I do not know how close stockbridge and Petersham are but how about St. Mary's monastery and St. Scholastica Priory right nexst to the Harvard Forest? http://www.stmarysmonastery.com I think. Or there's also the trappist abbey near Spencer
