HisChildForever
This isn't a debate. I'm just super curious when it comes to our Catholic members who have the "I don't rep Pope" description. I have seen a couple of these members post, and so far I haven't seen one of them say something contrary to Church teaching. (Which, I assume, just means I haven't caught 'em yet.) So to all our members who are Catholic and yet don't agree with all teachings of the Church, I'm just curious, what is it that you don't agree with? If this should be in the debate board, please move it. Like I said, I'm not trying to start a debate, more like - share time.
homeschoolmom
It varies. Sometimes a member has made a habit of saying things that are out of line with the Magisterium-- either "too trad" or "too liberal." Even though they may now be in line theologically, they often still carry the "I don't rep" moniker in case anyone were to read any of their old heretical posts. I liked the old phishy label better.
How about we just put a little message at the bottom that says "Be advised this poster, has made some comments in the past that are not in line with Church teaching." Everyone already asks what "i don't rep the pope" means, and I'm sure they did back when it was "phishy". If we make it obvious then we won't have people posting the same question over and over. Autumn Dusk
for me it was unnecessary retaliation when I became an athiest. I neither now, nor then, said anything against the pope. (even though I didn't believe in God I still thought the CC had good rules) I was a little wild and angsty, but an "I am annoying" icon would be more appropriate for me. Actually, I believe that I'm being punished for a dozen posts where I said I didn't believe in God. Although I stated that I still went to church (just not communion). Its no different than when I did believe in God and didn't go to Communion because of doubt. Just a bit of overzelous stomping down. Thats why my profile sais "I don't rep the pope" Nevermind that there are problems with certian members that I need to PM to take care of things. BTW dUst...the other problem didn't get solved.
Ash Wednesday
Perhaps I am mistaken here, but didn't some members in the past get their phishy/don't rep pope tags removed after a period of time if they recanted their previous views and demonstrated consistency over a period of time, but just didn't get the Church Militant tag because of the archives? (In other words, sit tight Autumn Dusk, you've probably got a long wait ahead of you. You're not the only one who's made this request and is still waiting. It's nothing personal, it's just the way this king of thing goes and has gone in the past.) I can actually only think of one member off the top of my head who had his phishy status removed and didn't return to posting sketchy things. I know of several others who asked, got it removed, and then started in on the phishy stuff again and got re-tagged. This is part of the reason why these requests are not acted upon immediately. Jesus_lol
i think it is kind of weird myself. for example, i would never go to a Guitar and music forum and implicitly trust everyone on an issue just because they say they play guitar. They might not, they could suck at it or be misinformed, or just be a lying butthole. so i would be careful who's advice i would take, and decide after researching and listening to other members, not relying on a status to tell me if they are being truthful. so why is it necessary here? if someone has the wrong idea, they will be contradicted by some one who has the right of it. most of the things being discussed can be easily verified if you actually look for the answer yourself, through the CC or google.
