Paladin D
I hear from many Protestant circles that there is a distinction between "Speaking in tongues" and "spiritual prayer". Speaking in tongues has to do with speaking in a tongue you are not familar with, by the influence of the Holy Spirit to witness to the Church (and to those who are not of the Church). While spiritual prayer (or prayer language) has to do with one's spirit man speaking to God in an angelic type tongue, or unknown tongue. It's used when we do not know what to pray, so our spirit prays for us. I may be off on some of the definitions, but I'm assuming some of you have heard of this. So my question is this... Does the Church have these two distinctions? What does the Church have to say about this? Thanks in advance.
willguy
I think it depends on who you are talking to. Some break it up that way. Some say that "speaking in tounges" can mean both (so sometimes it is a prayer language and sometimes it is speaking in another, human language). I don't know what the church says. God Conquers
ya, it totally depends who you talk to. Tongues can be manifested in different ways.
MrsFrozen
Why don't some people speak in tongues? I want to speak in tongues, but I never do.
God Conquers
It's not really up to you, it's up to God. He gives the gifts.
MrsFrozen
It's not really up to you, it's up to God. He gives the gifts.
I guess He gives different gifts to different people?

Paladin D
But how can one discern who has it, and who doesn't? It seems almost every charismatic has it.

Paladin D
So, the Church recognizes two types of Spiritual tongues?
God Conquers
eeee, tough to say there. I don't have an answer for that one. Someone... anyone? I'm not sure the Church has any official teaching on the gift of tongues... I may be wrong though.
