Barbarus
Freezer meals are amazing! Not only can they save you a lot of time but they also end up saving money as well. When I was saving up money for graduate school I did that a lot. I would spend a Saturday afternoon baking a couple of casseroles or lasagnas and would freeze them -- it got me dinner and lunch for weeks and worked out quite nicely.
I know this is totally off topic from the original post, but I do that too. It's great because I love cooking, but doing it on a daily basis is difficult. And, I am not a huge fan of relying on pre-packaged stuff. Doing my own prepared foods is nice because I know I'll like it and I know it's high quality. I cooked almost every day for about two weeks for my fiance, but then other responsibilities required my attention for a while. He called me one night last week and said, "I went upstairs and there was no hot food. What do I do now? You've totally spoiled me!" He is too cute. MissScripture
The last time I was pregnant my husband tried to cook for me because I was having trouble keeping anything on my stomach, and made a stir fry with cucumbers and sardines in it. I actually spit it across the room. He hasn't cooked for me since, Thank God. I don't even like him coming in the kitchen. It gives me flashbacks.
Um...how was that even supposed to be in the realm of a good idea when you already felt ill? CUCUMBERS AND SARDINES? If I wasn't feeling sick and I had that, I'd start feeling sick!!
Cucumbers and sardines? What posessed him to "create" that? My fiance and I both love too cook, but I'm such a kitchen hog that I need to be in control of the kitchen.... I usually only let him cut up stuff. God bless- LGLG
I am okay if he's the one in charge...if I'm the one in charge (as in, making most of the meal) I am very insistent that it be done my way. Oh, and either way, I get very irritable when he puts stuff on the stove, even if it's not on, because one day, he might not realize it and it will be, and *poof* there goes our house!
I'm sort of the same way. It's a struggle to let my kids help. I have to make a conscious effot to include them. It's so much easier to just do it myself! ("Get out of Mommy's way" is something I utter a lot when I am cooking. lol) Matt can really only cook minor things, but I love when he makes me breakfast. It makes me feel special.
My mom never really let us help with dinner, but with baking, when we were little, she'd measure stuff and let us pour it in, and such. When we got a little older, if we wanted to bake cookies or something, she'd go outside or something, so we could find her if we needed her, but she didn't want to be in there or she would take over. Archaeology cat
Wow, that looks delicious. Or delicioso. I am the cook in our relationship, which is fine by me. He can make pancakes, mac and coagulated milk, and frozen pizza. I make everything else. When I am pregnant I will aspire to make meals ahead and store them in the freezer just so I am not stuck eating macaroni for 3 months.
I didn't think of that. My husband is a good cook as long as he has a recipe (he was horrified the first time he watched me cook, because I don't measure anything, but since it tasted good, he's warmed up to it some). So for a few weeks there he cooked all the meals, because I was in bed from about 14.00 or 15.00 on (afternoon & evening sickness, I was great in the mornings). But as soon as I could do stuff in the kitchen, I got put in charge of dinner sometimes (just once a week when I started, when I was 8 or 9). Actually, she put my sister in charge, but my sister would call me into the kitchen every 5 minutes to ask how to do something or where something was, so I just ended up doing it. Once my mom found out, I was put in charge instead of my sister.

I did make a couple of improvements on recipies! My lil sis was more into the cooking, thing, though, so one time she was making dinner while mom and dad were at Mass. Poor thing misunderstood Mom's directions and made something in a casserole dish on the top of the stove, so it broke. I took over dinner from there, and told her to stay in her room until I explained what happened to mom and dad.
