Arms dealer Penguin? That would be cool!
That was actually an old rumor about The Dark Knight long before its release. Obviously, it was completely bogus.
I'd most like to see Bane, Man-Bat and Killer Croc.
I'd prefer to see brainier, more twisted villains, as opposed to guys who are mostly brute strength, like Bane and Croc. Other than his freakish physical appearance, Killer Croc's not a particularly interesting villain, imo, at least not for an entire movie.

Still...could be an interesting take on The Penguin.
There are many possibilities, they can still clear up Scarecrows storyline, also Phalcony is still alive. Ra's Al Ghul is suspost to have found the fountain for immortality, however thats not realistic in these batman movies, so Ra's Al Ghul is dead.

My list would be for any future Batman villians for the 8th/3rd Batman movie.
Major Villians
1) Riddler (A Serious Riddler, not a Jim Carry one, but a dark, clever, evil riddler will do.)
2) Bane (Only if he isn't cheesy)
3) Scarecrow (Had a short lived role in the Batman Begins, and even shorter in the Dark Knight.)
4) Ra's Al Ghul (Hes suspost to be Immortal if I remember correctly)
5) Two Face (Directors and Writers can change their minds)
6) Joker (If recasted)

Mob Bosses.
1) The Mob Boss from Batman Begins, hes still alive.
2) ???????
3) Someone else within the Phalcony Family.
Ra's al Guhl can still be killed - the Lazarus Pits only rejuvenate him so he does not die of old age; however he is not invulnerable. (Think the elves in LOTR.) Of course, Nolan avoided the issue of his immortality in the movie - a bit too implausible/unrealistic for what he was going for.

The next movie will not be about Scarecrow. His storyline was concluded in The Dark Knight - he was only there as a cameo to tie up the loose ends in Begins. (He got away near the end of Begins, and in TDK he is caught by Batman, presumably to be locked up in Arkham). He's just a two-bit slimeball in these flicks anyway - doesn't deserve another major role.

Carmine Falcone is locked up in Arkham, driven permanently mad and incapacitated by the Scarecrow's toxin.
TDK follows many themes of The Long Halloween - part of which is the decline of the mob in Gotham, and the rise of the "freaks."
I wouldn't mind seeing more of Maroni, though.

If there's a sequel, I'm pretty certain the major villain will be someone we haven't seen before in the existing Nolan bat-flicks. There's plenty of Bat-villains left to choose from.
But who could they bring back as Joker??? Not possible, IMO. Not possible. Especially after the performance Heath Ledger gave. Not possible.
Again, as I pointed out in the other TDK thread, the same thing was said about the shoes Jack Nicholson left with his 1989 portrayal. And the same was said about Romero's take from the 60's.
But, if we are talking about keeping the same "vision" ie director, then it would be difficult to recast. Caeser Romero was perfect for the campy Batman and Nicholson was fine for what he did. (I was never a particular fan of that set of Batman movies). But for as long as this set is being made, i think Joker is out... I'd like to see Riddler and Penguin-- but NOT like the one Danny Devito did... please. Too weird.

Harvey Dent is dead at the end of The Dark Knight. End of story. Get over it. While the Joker character is still alive in the movie, I think we can rest assured Ledger's death will keep him from appearing in any installment in the near future.

I agree.

Who said anything about changing the "vision" of Christopher Nolan? I'm not talking about bringing back the campier characters portrayed by Romero and Nicholson. I'm saying that maybe Ledger isn't the only actor who could give a stellar performance.

What about Johnny Depp as the Joker?

In some forum discussing an adaptation of The Dark Knight Returns, most of them thought that David Bowie would make a good Joker.

Now that I've actually seen it, I can finally weigh in on the topic. I think that Batman Begins is better than its sequel. I think if Ledger hadn't had a stellar performance, then it would've been an average movie.

I also noticed the immortal from Lost is the mayor of Gotham. :detective:

I read he used to play "Batmanuel" in The Tick (which I didn't watch), so his inclusion in TDK was kind of an in-joke. Does he wear a lot of mascara, or are his eyelashes naturally that thick?

Farsight one

Ok...who in their right mind thought that a movie starring Adam West was bad? that's just not physically possible...

And if they use the joker in future movies (johnny depp might be a good choice), then what the director needs to tell the actor is NOT "act like the joker", but rather "act like Heath Ledger playing the joker". Because the joker definitely should not undergo any sort of personality change.
