If I can watch the olympic swimming competitions without falling into sin, then why not watch a garter toss? AND>>>> It would be on my thigh where a Garter should be. Seriously Scandalous? Anyone here who thinks a Garter toss is scandalous better never go swimming in Europe because you see EVERYTHING, not just a leg, or an ankle EVERYTHING.[/quote] When did modern-day Europe, which has lost its faith and morals, set our standards for what shouldn't be considered scandalous? IrishSalesian
The only way that I see this becoming scanalous is if the people who participate, the garter catcher and the bouquet catcher, let it. If you can do it as mature adults then go for it. If you think that this will lead you to sin, then perhaps you should sit out and not participate. let_go_let_God
It is a tradition in my family, and I'm going to alter it because I guess my cousins did it all in a "scandelous" manner. The groom had to remove the garter with his teeth. My fiance and I have talked about it but never heard about the garter on the leg of the boquet catcher. Ususally in my family the guy who caught the garter had to dance the next dance with the girl who caught the boquet. God Bless- LGLG

I would do it, but it would not be above my knee and the poor girl who catches the bouquet will not have some strange guy groping her leg. cmotherofpirl
The groom takes the garter off the bride, she tosses her bouquet and the groom puts the garter on her leg. Like everything else its only "scandalous" if you make it that way.
StColette
We didn't do the garter toss at the Wedding, but I did wear a garter and I'm stopping there...

Dh tossed the garter (or rather shot it like a rubber band) and one of the groomsmen caught it (or walked over and picked it up). We have a photo of him with the garter around his arm standing next to the bouquet catcher... that was their entire interaction.

The groomsman who caught it was a family friend, so he held her on his knee for a few pictures.

Justin86
I had no idea there was a tradition with the groom throwing something to the next person whose supposed to get married. What exactly is a garter?
