Dark Knight

I'm pretty sure that the new Batman movie is only the second movie I've seen more than once in the theaters. The other one was the first Matrix movie. It is interesting that Dark Knight is trashing all sorts of records and now has its eyes set on the seemingly unbeatable Titanic record.

Catholic Exchange did an article on Dark Knight this weekend. I'm curious if any of you have thoughts or reflections about the movie's success. I did love it and I do recommend it for entertainment.

I saw it on vacation and absolutely loved it. Batman Begins was amazing but I really enjoyed this one more. My friends haven't seen it yet and I'll be going with them when they do :smokey:

See it in the theaters - much better to appreciate its full impact.
This is a darned good movie on many different levels.

I'm not that interested in Batman.

But I'll think about renting it on DVD, and if I don't rent it, I will certainly watch it when it plays on TNT, FX, or whatever cable channel eventually buys the rights to show it.

We've actually already discussed this movie at length in the pop culture forum. See this thread.

I thought that article's analysis was brilliant and on-target - the best review of the movie I've read.

I saw it last week and I am still in awe of the entire movie, but especially Heath Ledger's acting. I am infatuated with the plot, and I can't stop thinking about it. I can't wait to see it again, hopefully in IMAX..

Sometimes, yes. Newer home theaters blow most movie theaters right out of the water. I can't wait to see it on blu-ray.

I saw the midnight showing and got home at 3 am! I have mixed feelings about this movie however. I thought Heath Ledger's performance was SO good that it was bad - to the point where you walk out of the theatre feeling disturbed. It wasn't gory violence - it was the kind of violence that left too much for the imagination. He was good, horrendously evil, funny and serious all at once. By the end of the movie you are BEGGING Batman to kill him just to end the intensity of the character.

Someone would ask, "How was the movie?" It's really hard to answer that question. In many, many areas, for example as Catholic Exchange pointed out, it is the mirror of our society now. In a world that seems hopeless, we still have hope in God; but at the same time we need Christians to step up and not be afraid. Batman's Christlike sacrifice was refreshing to see. I loved those aspects of it...but at the same time I hated to have to see someone so evil to be able to see that there is still hope.

The Catholic Exchange review was great and I agree with it whole-heartedly. Does anyone else agree with my opinions?

So I think the movie was both good and bad.

The only movie I've watched more than once was The Passion of the Christ, which I saw three times.

Ah! How could I forget the Passion?!! Shame on me. Yes, I of course saw the Passion more than once in the theaters...at least three times, I think. Perhaps I don't lump Passion into the category of "movie", though. Of course that is what it is, but I suppose I don't associate it with "normal" movies. Kind of like the difference between Sacred and Profane Art.

Also, for those of you who might not be prone to notice, I've changed my avatar. This might not seem like a big deal, but I hardly ever change avatars on a forum. This is a first in the four+ years I've been posting on Phatmass.

I recommend that those of you who want to wait for Dark Knight on DVD to go see it on IMAX - at least then you will be getting a fun experience on top of an excellent movie.

In terms of comparison with past movies, aren't the box office numbers on how much money the movie made unreliable, since ticket prices rise over the years?

I think this was the first movie I've seen twice in theaters, but there might've been another one.

(Bruce Almighty possibly? I don't know. Probably one that my dad wanted to see with us after I had already gone with my friends.)
