EcceNovaFacioOmni
1. What is the meaning of the word begotten? Why is this used to explain the existence of Christ? Did Jesus, the Father, and the Holy Spirit exist for all time or did Jesus come from the Father? (I am having a hard time understanding some explanations online on these topics.) 2. What was Jesus's and the Holy Spirit's role in the Trinity before the Fall? The way I am thinking is that to need a savior, their must be something to save, and before the Fall, there was nothing to save, therefore no use for a Christ. What was Jesus' role before the sin at Eden? Or am i totally misunderstanding something? Thank you in advance.
BLAZEr
1.) Christ isn't "created." Since he is the second person of the Trinity he has always existed. Begotten signifies that he is taken from, or out of, but is not different from, he always was and always will be gotten from God. This is, of course, difficult to understand because ultimately this is the most profound and deep of all the Mysteries of Faith. Just know that the Trinity (God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit) has always existed as a Trinity. They are co-equal and co-existent. 2.) Christ as Savior is a "functionary" title. He saves us. But Christ also teaches us (Teacher), blesses us (Priest), heals us (Healer), reconciles us (Reconciler) etc. . . However, being "Son" is not a function, but an idenity. That is why we say our prayers 'In the Name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit" and not "In the Name of the Creator, Savior, and Sanctifier" because each of the "Persons" (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit) of the Triinty are much much more than what they do for us. Jesus, as Son, has always been "The Word." The Gospel of John makes this clear. "In the Beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God and all things were made through Him and not anythings was made that was not made through him" The Second Person of the Trinity, the Son, was the "Word" through which God created all things. So, before "The Word became Flesh, and dwelt among us." He had been playing a huge role in the world.
