I haven't read them all, but I read http://www.cswusa.com/countries/Egypt.htm, and I think it agrees with the experiences of the sisters: the government is anti-ngo and anti-Christian, though not always excessively so, and the main source of violence are extremist Muslims, not the general population.

I'm not saying Christians aren't discriminated against in Egypt, or that they're having an easy time by any standard. But there isn't an all-out persecution, either.

Carefull

Nuance really doesn’t seem to be encouraged here. Either the A-rab Mohammadean hordes are swarming down on a besieged Kafur Christian minority who are on the verge of total slaughter and annihilation, or you are claiming that no persecution exists and are trying to excuse ethnic and religious persecution.

[????????????] You cannot be serious. I think you are sadly un-informed, to say the least.

Please, stay informed.

And, BTW, this has been going on for centuries: EGYPT USED TO BE A CHRISTIAN NATION. Where do you think all those Christians went?

Egypt: Muslim scholar writes novel defaming Copts, Christianity

Spencer: Copts, however, did not mimic their Muslim counterparts' reactions when "offended" (or just in general) --- including rioting, attacking Copts, churches, monks, and abducting young Coptic girls, forcing them to convert.
"Muslim scholar's novel angers Coptic Church," by Ramadan al Sherbini for Gulf News, August 10:

Cairo: Since published last month, Azazel, a novel by professor of Islamic philosophy Yousuf Zidan has been panned by Coptic clerics as unfair and offensive to Christianity.

"Zaidan's book seeks to persuade readers that the Azazel story is true and was found in ancient scrolls written in Syrianic and Aramiyan languages," Bishop Abdul Massih Bassiut, a theology scholar, told Gulf News.

Azazel refers to the chief of goat-demons to whom most primitive Semitic tribes offered sacrifices. The controversial novel is set in the Egyptian coastal city of Alexandria in the fourth century when the city experienced a turbulent era of shifting from polytheism to Christianity.

"The author tries to Islamise Christian beliefs and takes the side of heretics," added Bishop Bassiut.

He has disclosed that two Church lawyers are examining the book at the request of Pope Shenouda III, the top Coptic cleric, before deciding on the next move.

"We will not demand the book be banned or take the author to court. But there will be a rebuttal of the fallacies mentioned in the book," added Bassiut.
Spencer: In other words, Copts will not riot and destroy, but simply, through logic, address the book's fallacies, showing where it errs. Would that only Muslims did the same thing! Whenever someone points out those "problematic" verses or hadiths, instead of retaliating with rage and violence --- not to mention accusations of "Islamophobia" --- if only Islam's ulema would simply respond and show how we infidels are "misunderstanding" what their texts plainly declare.

Right.

The Islamists are just finishing what they started with Egypt centuries ago when they invaded and conquered the Christians there in 969 and established an Islamic state in 1171.

Oh no, there's a terrorist who wants to kill Christians. :turban:

Look out, there's another one behind you. :turban:

And look, there's another one down the street. :turban:

And there's a couple in the mall. :turban: :turban:

Oh my goodness, they are everywhere. :turban: :turban: :turban: :turban:

Watch out, they're coming for us all! They're going to blow us all up. :turban: :turban: :turban: :turban: :turban: :turban: :turban:

Anybody who thinks they're all out to kill us are paranoid sheeple who really need to re-read the Bible that God would protect us if we trust in him!

I agree. Only a small percentage, maybe one to two percent think like that. At the same time, one or two percent of the Christian world are messed up cultists as well, who do equally evil things!

Wow what a grownup response to a serious topic.

With all the laws that have been recently passed over the past 7 years, I get a different impression, that everybody is afraid that there's terrorists everywhere. Heck, Obama wants to make a civilian force to keep tabs on potential terrorists, giving the same amounts of money to this new branch of the armed forces as all other armed forces agencies. By that standard, you'd think your neighbour is a terrorist.

Or, doesn't that bother you.

There are terrorists.

Terrorists have neighbors.

Those neighbors could be me. Or you.

Thus, my neighbor COULD be a terrorist. QED.

There are terrorists.

Terrorists tend to have two legs.

You could have two legs.

Thus, you could be a terrorist.

(Logic was one of my favourite subjects!)

To be honest, I think there is a greater percentage of terrorists in Islam than there is in Catholicism (we only have the IRA and the ETA, although I probably missed a few...) What's probably a big factor is that Islam isn't centralised like Catholicism is. No-one can say that Catholics are allowed to be terrorists, because our central authority has made it quite clear we aren't.

If only the more liberal leaders could get through to the idiot leaders...
