lost_in_this_world
so I know a lot of people don't support president Bush and I personally don't know wnough about his campaign to judge whether or not he is a good president or no. but so far I am supporting McCain and i just fined myself surronded by Obama supporters. I have no issue or argument with any of them but jeez it would be nice to have one person for McCain around me haha. anyway I was just wondering if any of you find yourselves surrounded by Obama supporters... Madame Vengier
I'm surrounded by poeple who support Obama and they can't quite name why. So I just keep pointing this out to them, that they are voting for someone they really know nothing about, who has no experience, who has been caught in one lie after another which they choose to ignore, and who is "preaching" a message that is so hollow that his own supporters can't tell you what it is in 10 sentences or less. I just remind them of that and I tell them not to complain when he becomes President and brings our country to its knees.
CatherineM
I was giving a radio interview here about my book, and since it is about fighting white supremacists, the interviewer asked very excitedly how cool it was for Obama to be running. I was stuck in that feeling that if I said anything bad about him, they'd think I was a racist. He's looked on like a god up here among liberals and minorities. Basically what I said was that no matter whether you agreed with his politics or not, the fact that a black man was competitively running for president, and being taken seriously, was historic. I wanted to say so many more things, but it would have ruined the message I was trying to get across. That's what makes me so angry. No one is allowed to say anything against him without looking like a racist.

She LITERALLY doesn't want to know. When I told her about the born-alive bill he tried to sqaush (she is pro-choice) she was shocked but then went right back to saying how she was voting for him because she doesn't have another choice. CatherineM
I was joking about this the other day, that he would probably be the first president not done on Saturday Night Live. Can't you imagine a younger Garret Morris or Eddie Murphy taking that on?

It's really, really bad. She still hasn't seen the Reverend Wright speeches even though she can tell you everything else that's popular on You Tube. She's a You Tube fanatic but conveniently never saw the clips of Wright screaming "God d**n America" that ran all over You Tube for weeks. When I asked her about them her response was "Meh, not interested". She doesn't want to know. She doesn't know anything about Obama. If I don't bother her with the facts then she can vote for him in good conscience. When he turns out to be a horrific President she can say, "But I didn't know." You see how it works? It's willful blindness. And America is rampant with people like this. Actually, becuase she's my friend I feel really sorry for her. What a tragic way to live. Just closing your eyes to whatever might force you to really think about life and the world around you. But at the same time I'm grateful to know someone like this. You can't truly understand it unless you know someone close to you who is this way. It's much bigger than just voting for Obama blindly. It's a kind of spiritual emptiness. CatherineM
I got into a discussion with a friend here today who said that if Obama isn't elected, that the US will look bad to other countries. I had to tell him that for the most part, Americans don't care how other countries view them. Anyway the discussion ended with an interesting question. Could Obama's election be the equivalent of a type of affirmative action? That we're going to elect him because it is past time to have a black president, no matter what his qualifications for the job, and that this is the root of them not being able to criticize anything he says or does, comedians included. It almost feels like, "let's elect him and get it over with."

A friend of mine mentioned this the other day, that if Obama is elected he would be the first President elected on the basis of affirmative action. My friend said, "If it works for jobs and education, why not the Presidency?". He was being sarcastic, of course. He can't stand Obama. I do feel that Obama is coasting on his skin color. But worse than that, I believe HE KNOWS it. It's why he is so confident and relaxed when spouting his empty rhetoric. He knows he can say anthing--or nothing at all--and he's already won. And honestly, if it didn't have such dire consequences, I would enjoy watching all those who blame the Republicans for everything look around and realize that democrats are not gods and republicans are not the root of all evil.
