Yep, :) Exactly how the two other time other than Stubie happened.

:) Agreed

I've seen people get that excited at ball games and concerts. I'm not saying that these people aren't filled with the Holy Spirit, I'm just saying that when the human body gets this excited, it can short circuit.

I agree, I just chaparoned 18 High School students to Steubie on the Bayou. The gentleman who was sorta head of ceremonies made sure to point out that the Spirit manifests itself in different ways in different people. I was very thankful to him for pointing this out, because had he not I would have had to explain it to some of our kids on the trip that could have been disappointed in not experiencing some of those things the ways other had.

I've been to a few adorations where this occurred as well! I was also terribly skeptical of it. It seemed like the more attention-seeking teens in the group were suddenly crying out, or acting like lunatics. I'm not saying the Spirit can't move people but it was altogether very curious...

Also, during one adoration, I heart a friend speak in tongues. It actually sounded kindof... well, evil. It was a series of strange hissing noises and repetitive nonsense. Any explanation for this?? I'd think that if the spirit were working in this individual to cause her to make those sounds, I wouldn't have felt so suddenly afraid.

The few Life in the Spirit retreats I've attended have also been very good in this regard, both in making sure to slowly introduce people to the gifts and what they are like and emphasizing that the Spirit gives each of us what we need, which won't look or feel the same for everyone.

Speaking/praying in tongues is a strange thing to hear, but on the same token, just because something is unusual or makes us afraid doesn't mean it's evil. Every time an angel appears to someone in Scripture, they have to say "Do not be afraid." :) Still, it's good to practice reasonable caution because Satan can surely imitate spiritual gifts or twist authentic gifts for evil purposes. When someone speaks to others in tongues, there should be someone else who can offer a translation, and it goes without saying that whatever is said should encourage believers and align with Church teaching.
