It's not a sexist thing and I am not, as some have insinuated, just looking for something to complain about. I think that seeing a woman breastfeeding can be distracting and the mother should try to minimize the distraction at mass.

I totally agree to this! Sometimes also if a child is acting up during Church and being totally distracting! i see parents take the child out for a 'talking to' and within 2 minutes the problem is solved and the parent with the child comes back. Though I am not a parent, This is what i see happening and think that it is a good way to handle those small yet still distractions. :))

Anyway I love seeing little babies and young children at Mass. They bring hope for the future!!!

Umm.. I brought my kids to Mass from pretty well the first Sunday they were born. I LOVE newborns in Mass. They are the ones that sleep mostly. It is the 3-6 month olds that cry. And that is life.

As for breastfeeding? I, personally, breastfed in the washroom when the need was there. I know some people never would do that, but for me, I was uncomfortable any other way. I liked the privacy. I just was simply not a public breastfeeder... :idontknow:

I really couldn't care less though if someone else is. Breastfeed away mommas.

joel 2:16
"Gather the people, sanctify the congregation, Assemble the elders, Gather the children and the nursing infants. Let the bridegroom come out of his room And the bride out of her bridal chamber."

now back to finish reading the thread.

oh.. and btw. I think a mother has a god given right to feedher child discreetly ANYWHERE she wishes. I dont understand why people get so in an uproar over it

Yes - I'm one of them. If my son has to eat, he has to eat. I'm proficient enough at breastfeeding in public that I don't expose anything, whether or not I have a blanket over him. If people comment at all, it's to ask if he's asleep.

Same here, nor do I want others to see mine. But like I said, it can be done in such a way that nothing is revealed, even if a cloth isn't used to cover the baby.

There used to be signs on the buses here that said "breastfeeding in public is not a crime!" Kinda made me laugh. But I'd totally put one of those buttons on my bag or something. :))

Trust me I certainly try. Going to the public pools here is sometimes a minefield... lots of girls who are trying thier hardest to get skin cancer on thier areolae.....

In the same way, I don't care if you breastfeed in public but have a little tact. when my mother breastfed us she simply put a light blanket or towel over for modesty and discretion.

I have had women, friends, just whip them out without warning right in front of me......
I am sorry but I did not want to see everything, but I did... I was given no warning. And I have to admit it really made me uncomfortable I can only imagine how it would make a man feel.

Yeah, that could be awkward. Whether I use a blanket or not, though, I certainly don't just lift up my shirt for all to see. I'm generally a modest person, and that would make me very uncomfortable, not to mention those around me. If I'm out in public, I just make sure I'm wearing a shirt that I can easily nurse Kieran in without revealing everything. A blanket would end up showing more, in fact, because he would promptly pull it off and detach himself, leaving me exposed for all to see. He's a cheeky monkey.

Groo the Wanderer

Hmm...I thought one was not supposed to eat during Mass. Not to mention the one hour fast.

Gotta start 'em on the right path young, I say!
