thessalonian
I found this article fascinating. It is directed toward politics but there are alot of similarities between how people behave and come to conclusions politically and religously. I think it shows why we have such difficulty converting people to the truths of Catholicism simply by apologetic arguements. CatherineM
I'm not sure we are ever going to totally understand how the brain works. For instance when I had my brain injury, I lost the ability to speak or understand French and Spanish, but I can still read them. The neurologist said I must have stored the spoken and written in different parts of my brain. This article reminded me of the progress in our society of gay "rights." Whether you agree or disagree about them, I think we can agree that just slowly getting used to the idea, has made them more excepted. It's kind of like putting frogs in cold water and slowly increasing the temperature. The more that ordinary people (those who don't spend their time debating philosophy) see, hear and read about an issue, the more likely they are to be willing to accept a change. This is why it is so important for us to stand up when someone attacks the Church in the media, in a movie or book. We have to counter the images so that they don't get burned in. LouisvilleFan
Also explains why the Church's cycles of feast days, liturgies, and prayers are so powerful in perpetuating Christian culture for many generations, even as a society falls aways from Christianity. thessalonian
Yes LVF, I had that thought. Why do they read over and over in 3 year cycles the same scriptures? It renews them for us and restores the context.
Barbarus
I heard a radio programme about this recently. Fascinating stuff, our brains.
