Hey all,

so graduation from University is upon me and Ive got some career options but I want to travel for a month or so before I accept.

Where should I go to escape the harsh winter Ive endured for 21 years? Is Europe much better? What about Australia?

Shared experiences would be great, but suggestions to look into even better!

Japan and South Korea.

You can get a JR rail pass (for Japan) for 21 days and use it to travel the entire country. That's the bullet train, though it includes some local trains as well. Three weeks is enough time to hit several major cities in Japan. The JR is awesome. You can even reserve your seats with no extra charge.

Then you can use your last week to make a short trip to Seoul, South Korea which is 2.5 hours plane ride from Tokyo or 1.5 hours from Nagasaki (this is the better option). Lodging is clean, safe and cheap in both countries. There are plenty ways to eat on the cheap too but still with healthy, delicious options. You won't run out of cultural and historical sites to see, including museums, art galleries and a plethora of shopping options. Lots and lots of Catholic history in both countries, including old churches and cathedrals, and martyrs' shrines. The Japanese and the Koreans are lovely people, very polite society, and generous and helpful. As for weather, Japan and Korea are similar to the USA. They have 4 distinct seasons but they are slightly different from USA in the months they fall in.

I can give you the 411 on everything if/when you interested. I've been twice. I have photos, too!

Go to Rome and visit the Vatican and see all the Cathedrals and religious sites throughout Europe.

Or travel to the Holy Land and walk where Jesus walked. :)

Go to Israel and see where Jesus suffered and died. Then go to Europe and see where St. Peter and many of the first followers suffered and died. Then watch You Tube clips of the sites in Japan and South Korea, while lamenting, but accepting, that you couldn't get there, too. :)

What kinds of things do you want to see? I personally love England (thus why I live here, at least for the time being), and love traveling over Europe. I want to go to Japan someday, as I have friends there, and I want to go to Cambodia to see Angkor Wat. I'd also love to go to India at some point.

But not sure I'm helping you any. ;)

Go to Japan and South Korea to experience the glorious history of the One True Faith in the Orient. Then, go to Washington, DC and visit the Franciscan Monastery of the Holy Land, which is a replica of the Church of the Nativity in Bethlehem. Then, watch You Tube clips of the sites in Europe, comforting yourself in the knowledge that most of your Catholic friends and neighbors who have been to Europe will be spellbound by your experiences of the Church in the Far East, which they will likely never get to encounter.

Don't be dope. Visit the pope. :P

Last I checked, the Pope wasn't in Japan. You can't get all your religious items blessed by the Pope in Japan.

I was originally thinking that I would go to Southern Germany, swing into Switzerland and Austria with a stop south in Rome to cap it off.

New Zeland and Australia are on my depth chart as well, with Ireland/England following up the rear. I really just want somewhere warmer in January. So cold here.

Never really thought of Japan and Korea though. I like open space.

This is my first destination if I ever travel to Europe. I would mos' def' visit the Catholic Headquarters of the world...

...I would love to visit the Korean martyrs holy places, too. I have read so much about them. They suffered greatly for the Faith to bear fruit in Korea.

Both are great suggestions...

What about Scotland? A good friend of mine went there last summer. Seems like a very beautiful country. Or ANTARCTICA! My best friend is saving to go next summer!

Hehe, Antartica would be crazy! Crazy good that is. The only fear I have would be having the same reaction upon arrival that the penguins in Madagascar had when they finally arrived..."...well this smells of elderberries." HAH!

Catholic HQ would be a good time however.
