Apotheoun
This is a rather bizarre thread. There is simply nothing wrong with saving seats for your friends at Mass.

That was never my experience at FUS at Mass or with any of the households. Maybe there was just a bad crop of people while you were there, but that definitely wasn't my experience. I have a question though, were there no seats elsewhere? and was this their household Mass? I know many of the households have a Mass that they always attend together each week. The Roman Church should get rid of pews entirely. Pews -- after all -- were a Reformation innovation.

Churches also have a few benches along the walls for the elderly, infirm, and others in real need.

I just remember feeling very out of the loop when I was not in HH and very trapped and stifiled when I was in HH. The girls that moved back to my geographical area were very controlling the first few years out of college, I felt like I was in a cult and it took a lot of courage (and therapy) to break free. Anyway my main post was about HH life and how it could be improved, saving seats was just one of my pet peeves. I really think the campus might be better off w/o them. Apotheoun
I was not in the Households (I really was too old for such things), but I think that they are better than having fraternities at the school.

friendofJPII
I can see the need for a Christian group at a secular public or secular Catholic university, but not at FUS where there already is much Catholic support. I think the campus would be a much better place w/o the segregated groups. People would be free to form friendships as they pleased.

Now, as I said, I did not belong to a Household, and I was older than most of the other students I associated with, but I was always made to feel welcome. When I completed my MA in Theology a group of students from the Trinity East dorm commissioned an icon for me of St. Gregory Palamas (my patron saint) as a gift. I made many great friends at FUS, and several of them call me on a fairly regular basis to shoot the theological breeze. friendofJPII
I think it was a very segregated campus, HH-wise and gender-wise. Friendships between men and women were not encouraged. It was seriously like the Awkward Song on you-tube, "if they see you talking you're getting married!"
