When I started a program for people with disabilities or deformities that made them feel uncomfortable going to a regular mass, we named it the Fr. Damian mass. Had it in the chapel at the Catholic hospital, and had people come who had prosthetics or bad burns. Even had one woman with a lot of tattoos who felt like she got stared at constantly in her parish. I didn't know it at the time, but I realise now that if it hadn't been for his story coming into my hands at just the right moment I might never have asked to be confirmed.
