Woohoo! I happened to meet a missionary from where his mission was in Hawaii. He was definitely a wonderful and holy man.

That is great! He was such a wonderful selfless man. I read a book about his ministry in Hawaii a few years back and could not put it down.

His life is definitely inspiring. Speaking of being Charitable....maybe we need to make him the patron saint of PHATMASS!

He's always been one of my favorites too. When I started a program for people with disabilities or deformities that made them feel uncomfortable going to a regular mass, we named it the Fr. Damian mass. Had it in the chapel at the Catholic hospital, and had people come who had prosthetics or bad burns. Even had one woman with a lot of tattoos who felt like she got stared at constantly in her parish.

Fr Damian is largely responsible for my reversion to Catholicism. I didn't know it at the time, but I realise now that if it hadn't been for his story coming into my hands at just the right moment I might never have asked to be confirmed.

Now here is a question for all of you :
Do you know, without checking, where Fr. Damian is from ?
