Deus te Amat
Havok, there is no public transportation here. I think my town has a total of two taxis for county use. I live a half hour from town.... taking the "public transportation" my county offers would cost more in one trip than I pay for gas in a week.
Well your would be a rare case. Most cities that would not be considered a small town have public transportaion. Although with small towns the bonus is you don't have to drive very much and can either walk or ride a bike everywhere. Or everyone could just get a vespa(moped), they get like 70miles to the gallon. Jenny Yay
Well, that's bad news for my fiance' poor, old car. His A/C makes the car run worse when on, so we have to have the windows down. Maybe God will bless him with a new car soon.
MRSannie
HOW on EARTH can there be a wait for trains that long??!!! Us type-A Chicagoans would never be able to handle it! 10 min max or we stroke out! What happens with ambulances and fire trucks? Do they have to find a roundabout way via communication with transportation folks? sheesh! Our daughter is headed to Tulane in the fall----hope she never needs an ambulance while a train is chugging by!!

I have a horror story about that. I had just come home from a night out with a friend and was heading to bed when I heard my dad calling my name. I walked out my bedroom door and found my dad lying there on the floor of the hallway holding the telephone. He was have symptoms of a heart attack. I had to call 911. Sure enough the volunteer firefighters (EMTs) got there in their vehicle but the ambulance got stuck behind a train for 30 or 40 mins. Thank goodness it wasn't a heart attack or if it was it had only been a small one according to the EMT guys meter thingy.

I only live like 2 miles from work and I was like "hey I could ride one of those to work" and then I thought to myself "never mind soon I'll be having a baby coming with me (hopefully at the daycare at the Church) everyday" lol btw please pray Micah and I find a reasonably priced daycare or babysitter for when the baby comes. MRSannie
Wow, that heart attack could have been awful!! I would think they would strategically place fire stations where there was access on either side of tracks!! I guess at Tulane (or Tulie as she is now calling it) they could put her in a golf cart and get her to the medical center pretty quickly, lol Hubby and she were just down there for orientation. He loved the campus, and that La food is AWESOME

Laudem Gloriae
I live outside of Austin, TX and for myself and everyone else I know, it's a no-can-do for going without the A/C! And I live in the hill country around Austin and Capital Metro buses don't really go anywhere other than Austin a a bit outside the city limits. For me, it's a 13 mile trip ONE WAY to the nearest bus stop! So no bus for me and I'd have to leave my house at 3 am (if they even run that early!) just to get to work on time with the traffice and frequent stops! Plus there are some crazy characters on these buses. If you have ever been to Austin and have seen all the "Keep Austin Weird" bumper stickers, you'd understand! As for speeding, I do try not to, but it's easy to get road rage around here! Just more to offer up to the Lord! Good penance and builds the virtue of Patience! Piccoli Fiori JMJ
Kind of on topic, but a little shift: Local gas station here had listed 4.19 w/ credit cards below that it said 4.12 w/cash is there an extra charge from credit card companies on gas? I know there are fees for charging things that the credit card company will charge the retailer, but in many cases at a big chain (this was a BP) the fee is so small it doesn't matter. 7 cents / gallon seems a pretty big discrepancy.
Yes. Credit companies charge stations for them to use the credit readers and credit services. Apparently with the high prices, station owners can barely make a profit, if any, with credit charges added. Even after they mark the gas prices up for profit. And, lots and lots of people use credit because it is easier and you don't have to 'waste time' by going inside. I just heard a report about this a few days ago. If you use cash, the stations can actually make a profit instead of giving it all to the credit companies. And if you have to go inside to pay, you might be a little more influenced to pick up a fine food or drink item to take with you on your trip! A little more revenue and profit for them!
