CatherineM
I lived in Florida for a couple of decades without air conditioning in my car. It was an antique VW campervan. I found pouring ice water on my head worked wonders. Here they have rules against idling for more than 5 minutes unless it's -20 degrees out. XIX
or buy a motorcycle! seriously, the biggest fattest ugliest motorcycle driven recklessly will still get the same gas mileage or better than a hybrid. except the biggest fattest motorbike will still cost less than a hybrid, and any normal sized bike will cost half as much(3-6K) as the cheapest new car available and normal bike get gas mileage in the range of 50-70MPG. nother tip, try and stay in the higher gears for longer, keeps the engine rpm's down.
Yeah, but hospital bills are kinda pricey too. So are funerals...
havok579257
I look at it this way, soon enough gas will go down, so no need to worry. Look at the 80's when gas prices were through the roof and people lined up for hours just to get some gas. I look at it this way, if you don't like paying high gas prices then ride the bus or public transportaion. MOst places it only costs a quarter to ride where ever you are going. If you don't want to use public transportation, then don't complain. There is an option out there, if you don't want to use it, then you got no room to complain. SaintOlaf
Kind of on topic, but a little shift: Local gas station here had listed 4.19 w/ credit cards below that it said 4.12 w/cash is there an extra charge from credit card companies on gas? I know there are fees for charging things that the credit card company will charge the retailer, but in many cases at a big chain (this was a BP) the fee is so small it doesn't matter. 7 cents / gallon seems a pretty big discrepancy. Meaning if they need change for their drawers at a store and they go to the bank, the bank will charge them a certain precentage in order to make change for them. Crazy isn't it
SaintOlaf
I was taken aback a little by it I guess, I usually pay cash anyway but it just seemed wierd. For once in an increasingly cashless world *I* have the upper hand They could be getting charged for change too I guess. I've never run into that before in the 9 years I've worked in retail, but I work for the biggest pharmacy chain in the country, so Im sure they get some special banking benefits. Go back to before everyone had a car. Public transportaion was running all the time because that was the most used mode of transportaion. If everyone used it, it would become more accessible. Also even if you only used it to go to work and back M-F, how much gas would that save a person a year? YOu can buy year bus passes real cheap. Now compare that price to drving to work everyday for a year. Even if you can't always use public trnasportaion, using it whenever you can will drastically reduce youyr gas prices. So hence, here is an option, if people refuse to use it, it is their choice, but they have no leg to stand on and complain then if they refuse to use it. They understand, because it's such a common occurence around our area. I have missed Mass before because I was stuck at a train for more than an hour, of course I went later on in the day. During high school and middle school lots of students missed first period because of trains lol The schools actually had copies of the train schedules to make sure we were telling the truth.
It's called a bridge. Alycin
There is no public transportation in my town, it's too small. You can ride anywhere on a bike, though, here.
DiscerningSoul
I work at a gas station and our price is higher then the full service station down the road, yet I see all these SUV's at our station and then too boot I see alot of times people keep there car on while they are inside. I have always been tempted to hop into a running car and drive around the street. LOL
CatherineM
Public transit here has gotten freakishly crowded during peak times. They had to double some bus routes. By fall when school starts again, it will been even more so. They added this thing where your college ID is a bus pass. All the students pay a transit fee as part of their school fees now, except my college for some reason. Guess because it's Catholic and not public. What I can't figure out is people riding bikes when it -20 degrees outside. How do you do that? Do they make snow tires for bikes?
