I drive by Six Flags on my way to Mass every Sunday ... haven't been there in years though.

All that just for a hat ... tragic!

This kind of thing disturbs me to no end... ugh. What peeves me is that there are probably a lot of people in our society who would guffaw like an idiot at this story. There are a lot of sickos out there who find gory stuff like this something to simply laugh at; I could never comprehend the amount of desensitization and removal of the reality of death that would be involved in something like that. It's pretty frightening.

I had that thought, as well.

I don't think you need to be "desensitized" to death to find something like this humorous. I mean, it is a terribly tragic event. I can't imagine the horror of the people on the rollercoaster and in line when they saw this happen. Still, you can't deny the irony here. And just because I find gore interesting doesn't make me a "sicko." Frankly, I find your post here to be quite judgmental and self-righteous.

I don't feel sympathy for the kid; he was an idiot and his death was entirely his fault.

However, I do feel bad for the family of the kid.

Oh, I know what you mean about seeing the irony in it. And you're right, you can see this as horribly tragic and yet with a dark irony to it as well. At least that's how I see it.

I do hope this impresses on people the importance of staying out of those restricted areas, though. That they aren't just restricted for giggles, or whatever, but that such things can be truly dangerous.

And I pray for him, and for his friends & family as they deal with such a tragic occurrence.

Since when was the comment aimed at you? I don't recall you saying that you guffawed at this event. I find your response to be judgmental (assuming it was aimed at you and extrapolating from a few basic points I made) and self-righteous.

There is a difference between finding gore interesting in movies and in real life.

I'm talking about the type of people who visit real life gore websites for fun and get their jollies that way. There is nothing self-righteous about being sickened by the pure evil, or at very least sickness, involved in that.

Laughing at someone being decapitated makes anyone a sicko, period. You can find it interesting and ironic, but not funny. The gut reaction should be horror. If it's not then you need to do some soul searching.

Just imagine someone else laughing at the corpses of aborted babies or the description of how the abortions take place. I don't think you could possibly say that it is not a sick reaction. It would be a display of a sickness of conscience.

Sadly, though, young people are still rather impulsive and immature in their judgement. If the child were 12 would you feel sympathy for him?

By lack of wisdom and christian charity would such a thing be found amusing. The same would be true for lack of sympathy.

I don't know... I mean, this kid was 17. I'm 17, and I think that I, along with most people my age, have the sense not to do something that stupid. I do agree though that this doesn't justify a lack of sympathy

Yes, there should be sympathy. The boy obviously didn't think that it was really all that dangerous to go into that area. As for amusing - no, not amusing. As I said before I do find it darkly ironic, but that is not the same as amusing.
