it wasn't just a slam on liberal catholics tho... in some areas it slammed Catholics inline with Church teaching:
pretty lame

<_<

It's written by RadTrads to put anyone who doesn't think like them in the same category, mixing orthodox, obedient Catholics with those who break the rules.

THAT is why I said it is black and white thinking. It is saying, "either you're a super-conservative, VATII hating Catholic, or you're a bad Catholic."

This article when referring to the Second Vatican Council is poking fun at the false spirit of Vatican II.
what he said
I don't think that fact that it's talking about "the spirit of Vatican II" instead of Vatican II council is very clearly stated.

CHANGE: Mandated by the Second Vatican Council; must be open to all change unless instituted recently; see WE HAVE NO RIGHT ANSWERS.

How did you interpret the "Spirit of Vatican II" from this definition?

I am guessing that KoC is giving them the benefit of the doubt.
I don't really have anything to say because KofC did the talking for me. :)
I think the confusion is caused by the author who tempted to write this as a 'liberal' would. For a liberal catholic there is no difference from Vatican II, and the spirit of Vatican II.
what he said. :)

LOL... so wait... you don't think there is any doubt, after you quoted several people who got the wrong idea?

And then KoC says the confusion is caused by the author... and you just grin away...

You are an interesting one...

The sad thing for me is that I feel pulled toward a lot of things traditional in the Catholic church... but if the author of this article, or STM, or similar people... share the attitude of people that would be found in that scene, then count me OUT!

Luckily the Holy Father is currently trying to rectify the path of the liturgy.

No fruits and veggies for me.

by saying i didn't think there was doubt (a statement i retracted... i AM sorry that i said it. honest.) i just meant that the author did not intend to be ambiguous, nor did he intend to say that Vatican II was bad. You just have to have the right mindset when you read it, and view things as a typical "spirit of vatican II" supporter would view them.
And then KoC says the confusion is caused by the author... and you just grin away...
I would actually disagree that the confusion is created by teh author. *shrug* he was clear enough for his purposes... I think that the confusion is created by the reader. I don't mean that the reader is dumb or anythign, just that maybe he/she thought too hard about it. the whole thing was just a joke, just supposed to be funny.

I'm sorry.

If you disagreed with KoC's statement, you should not have said "what he said" :P

And it's okay, you're pretty mild compared to others.

Well, I was agreeing with the second part of his statement, not the first. You're right, I was vague. :)

then it should not have been written saying "THE SECOND VATICAN COUNCIL"

is this so hard of a concept folks? When something like this is written, and the way it is written (in some areas) it slams Catholicism, not just "liberal" Catholicism, then why am I so wrong for not understanding that when they say The Second Vatican Council, they actually mean the Spirit of Vatican II???

It sounds to me like it was written by someone who doesn't believe Vatican II was legit...

I hear you.
I HEAR YOU: A clever way of telling you that I don†t agree with you but I don†t want to sound dogmatic, rigid or inflexible.
:lol_pound:
Naw, but seriously, I can see how the author was only talking about the Spirit of Vatican II (his definition of the Spirit of Vatican II makes it clear that he's against that) but I still think he definitely should have made it more clear.
