alicemary
Whole natural products as much as you can. Fresh fruit and veggies. I have learned to love soy milk, the low fat kind...some soy milks are very high fat. Who ever said reading the labels is right. Things have a terrible amount of calories and fat in them. I had a coupon for a veggie pizza, the real small size, would have been free. I read the label and almost died...something like 720 calories, 55 grams of fat..I stopped reading it and gave the coupon to someone else. I try and stay away from all meat when I can. Every day is not perfect, but overall I try to not eat meat or meat products. That is not always easy or possible. Whole grains are wonderful and filling. If you look at bread and it says enriched...that means all the good has been taken out of it and they put chemicals back in to make up for that. Try and get the whole grain bread that says whole wheat on the product description. If it is enriched, put it back. I have discovered lately the wealth of good foods that are in the organic section of a grocery. NOt only fruits and veggies but all kinds of rice mixes and cereals. They may cost a little more, but are better for the body. Oatmeal is so good for you, i know I know who wants to eat it? Well I put some raisins on it and eat it every morning. So filling and so many benefits. It is about making healthier choices. I am still learning, and trying to loose weight. Being a diabetic makes it a real challenge. A well balanced meal is the best...a little bit of everything. And if you choose to eat meat, make it a small portion. Good luck and enjoy the adventure. It does not have to be a chore but a real learning experience.

But cinnamon, in small doses, really is good for you, as well. lost_in_this_world
okay so I'm in culinary school and have taken a few nutrition classes so hopefully I can help. the basics are whole grains, fresh fruits and veggies and protein. Fiber is realy good to have because it keeps you feeling fuller longer. Also don't deprive yourself of the foods you like because then you are more likely to eat a lot of junk food at once. If you eat red meat, eat a portion size that is about a deck of cards. hopefully it helps
