The Grail Movement refers to an organisation originating in Germany around the late 1940s and inspired by the work of Abd-ru-shin, principally In the Light of Truth: The Grail Message.

Abd-ru-shin (1875-1941) never founded any such organisation in his lifetime, nor was he ever considered a member of one. The movement as it exists today was formally organised by followers. "In the Light of Truth is published and distributed by the Grail Movement, with headquarters in Austria; there is practically no scholarly research available on the Grail Movement, and the only good and relatively recent overview by outsiders is a research paper written by two German Protestant theologians: Karin Verscht-Biener and Hans-Diether Reimer, Die "Gralsbewegung", Stuttgart. Evangelische Zentralstelle für Weltanschauungsfragen, 1991 (Series "Orientierungen und Berichte", N° 18).."[1]

The Grail Movement has been described both as a new religious movement and as a cult[2][3][4]. Most members reside in Western Europe (primarily Germany and France), and the group claims to have hundreds of members in Britain and thousands worldwide[5]. It can also be found in Quebec, Canada and in some West African countries such as Nigeria and Côte d'Ivoire.

The world view of members of the Grail Movement is based mainly on the work In the Light of Truth, written by Oskar Ernst Bernhardt and published under the name Abd-ru-shin, which believers consider to be more important than the Christian bible. The original teachings of Jesus Christ, however, form a central theme throughout the Grail message.

Worldwide, there are about 10 000 members of the Grail Movement[6]. A declaration of the personal commitment to adhere to the principles of the Grail message can be made by a request for the “Sealing”; a Grail Act (ceremony) that takes place during one of three annual festivals. This, however, is a personal decision on the part of the individual and leads neither to commitment to an organisation nor to formal links with other adherents.

[edit] Religious teaching leads to inhumane atrocities

Authorities believe that both cases by the perpetrators were due to the teachings of the Grail Movement in accordance with their beliefs.[7]
“ “The teachings of the Grail Movement concentrate on the effort to become a better independent human being,” said Artur Zatloukal, leader of the Grail Movement in the Czech Republic, who is quick to distance the group from Adam’s activities.

“We believe that each person is responsible for his or her own actions and thus any sectarian tendencies go against our teachings,” he said..[8]

* Slave Labor and Death

Grail Movement leader, Jiří Adam, who had been using five[9]female pensioners as slave laborers, some for as long as 20 years and causing the death of one of them in 2006.[10] Adam served as the groups spiritual leader for close to 20 years. In 2000 he had all his followers sign over all their property and forced them into hard labour.[11]
“ ““I’ve never seen a case like this,” said detective Oldřich Kříž, who took part in the investigation. “The women looked like concentration camp victims.”[12] ”

* 2008:"Followed order from leader of religious cult"

In 2008, the Grail Movement was implicated in a case of cannibalism, sexual abuse, torture and child abuse (physical) in the Czech Republic[13][14]. Klara Mauerova, Barbar Skrlova and four others stand accused in the shocking abuse case.[15] Klara Mauerova, 31 admitted in court proceedings to torturing her two sons and feeding their flesh to relatives[16]. In court testimony it was discovered that the abuse of the children was co-ordinated via text messages sent by a leader of the Grail Movement cult;who was known only as the "Doctor"[17][18] .
Another recent story about this cult. This one in the UK Sun about 5 women that were held as slaves.

I kinda wish the UK press had some more facts in their (can hardly call it) coverage of stories, though. I hate articles that are so full of lines like so-and-so are "thought to have" done this and that. It's not even journalism; it's just gossip.

Still, it looks like and intriguing story, and this cult seems to have similar results of brutality in many places.
Cop Oldrich Kriz said: “I’d compare the women’s state to that of World War Two concentration camp victims.” Adam is thought to have brutalized and brainwashed the women, all now pensioners, making them sign over £1million in property and cash.

They worked from dawn to dusk, laying bricks and making stone paths for tractors on his vineyard. They ate just bread and water, with a spoon of honey for supper. In winter he gave them only old coats for blankets.

And he raged at a concerned neighbour: “We don’t need God here. I’m God.”

Adam now faces slavery and sex charges. His sect was said to be based on the secretive Grail Movement, with 10,000 followers worldwide including hundreds in Britain.
