Brigid
I was under the impression that priests received a second guardian angel at their ordination. I mentioned this to my parish priest, and he said he'd never heard that before. we then asked the resident seminarian, and he'd never heard that, either. I really, really don't think I made it up, but they're both pretty smart guys, and I'd expect them to know if it were true. does anyone know? The only other class like this one is in D.C. He spoke of how priests received a vocation angel, sorta like a second guardian angel. Not all priests and seminarians study angel existensively, no matter how smart they are. Given that there are only two strictly Angelology classes given in the US including Catholic Universities, Colleges, and Seminaries it would be rather rare for them to know all the ends and outs of Angelology unless they attended either of those classes. Dr. Miravalle may mention it on his website MotherofAllPeoples.com One thing I thought about during that class, being a girl lol! What about moms who are expecting. Some tradition holds that guardian angels are given at conception and others at baptism. Now let's ponder if it's at conception, does the baby's guardian angel help the mom along too? lol
Autumn Dusk
I know the CFR's say that when people are gathered there are probably at least twice the number of angels in the room/area than there are people.
Fr. Antony Maria OSB
Okay, so the only two classes in the US about Angelogy (sp?) are at FUS and Catholic University of America? I just want to get this clear because this is a class I'd love to take sometime, although in all likelihood no where in the near future.
CatholicCid
I believe Theologian In Training (Fr. Brian I believe?) posted about this in his Sermon on the Feast Day of Guardian Angels. I believe Peter Kreeft teaches a course on Angels at Boston College, not sure though. The book jacket for his "Angels (and Demons)" mentions that the book is "based on a very popular college course he teaches on this subject." Haven't finished it, but haven't seen anything on the number of guardian angels we have. -Edit Here is Theologian's Homily on Guardian Angels:http://www.phatmass.com/phorum/index.php?showtopic=73374&st=0&start=0 And the part I was refering too:
I want to tell you a story to help drive this point home a little more, which concerns a retreat I had taken before I was ordained a deacon. It is believed that when a man is preparing for Holy Orders, the spiritual realm, both good and evil, are at war the most, because a priest is about to be born, and believe it or not, by virtue of their ordination, they are given great spiritual strength. One night while I was at retreat in Chester, in a hermitage, I experienced this battle. It is hard to explain how I experienced it, but suffice it say, I did. I remember I was struck with fear, great fear, and prayed like I had never prayed before, and finally fell asleep while at deep prayer. The next day, I was at adoration and was allowed, as it were, to see, I guess you could say, in my mind’s eye, what occurred, the details are unimportant, but I was able to see standing next to me, two angels, both looking as though they were warriors, wielding shields and swords.
Edited June 20, 2008 by CatholicCid

Paladin D
Is Catholic University of America a good Catholic college?
Justin86
I've heard it's gotten better over the years. The Thomas Moore Law Center puts out a guide to the orthodoxy of Catholic colleges, and I would always refer to that, though.

Justin86
Huh. That smells of elderberries. I was really looking forward to studying angels after I got out of the military. Do they have any online, or correspondence courses in the subject?
rckllnknny
sometimes i will remember stuff out of no where. and not remember where it came from. and it will usually be random information. and then i will ask myself 'how did i know that?' perhaps, it was divine intervention. Deb
I would like to know if a study of Angels or knowledge of Angels is based on Church teaching, revelations of God or where it comes from. I don't recall a whole lot of detail in the bible about Angels, except when they are being used as messengers. Is the information from personal revelation? If anyone knows, please post. What you could do is contact Dr. Mark Miravalle at Franciscan and ask when he is teaching the class again. If you send him a tape recorder he will make sure to have one of the students or himself record his lectors for you. This was done for a priest and a few others when I took the class a year or so ago.
Thy Geekdom Come
i believe there are endless number of angels everywhere.
There are very, very many (many more angels than there are humans, planets, and stars combined, if our traditions are to be believed) angels, but not an endless number, because creation is finite.
