Lounge Daddy
Energy Guzzled by Al Gore’s Home in Past Year Could Power 232 U.S. Homes for a Month Gore’s personal electricity consumption up 10%, despite “energy-efficient” home renovations NASHVILLE - In the year since Al Gore took steps to make his home more energy-efficient, the former Vice President’s home energy use surged more than 10%, according to the Tennessee Center for Policy Research. “A man’s commitment to his beliefs is best measured by what he does behind the closed doors of his own home,” said Drew Johnson, President of the Tennessee Center for Policy Research. “Al Gore is a hypocrite and a fraud when it comes to his commitment to the environment, judging by his home energy consumption.” In the past year, Gore’s home burned through 213,210 kilowatt-hours (kWh) of electricity, enough to power 232 average American households for a month. In February 2007, An Inconvenient Truth, a film based on a climate change speech developed by Gore, won an Academy Award for best documentary feature. The next day, the Tennessee Center for Policy Research uncovered that Gore’s Nashville home guzzled 20 times more electricity than the average American household.
Read the full report at the TCPR
Socrates
Come on. Environmental responsibility is only for little people.
Mercy me
Wasn't his excuse last year that his consumption was so high due to construction costs from construction and upgrades to make his home more energy efficient? My grandfather used to say don't listen to what people say, watch what they do. Actions speak louder than words.
Alycin
I probably use that much energy from heating my showers alone But I recycle, does that count?
Paladin D
It's funny to see how the rich and celebrity environmentalists preach about how we consume too much energy, but tend to be more guilty of it than us. It seems they don't want to take responsibility, instead they want to shove it on us. Edited June 18, 2008 by Paladin D

Farsight one
You guys do know that his house is a home/office, right? He's got quite a few people who WORK there too. ...or am I thinking of someone else?
CatherineM
I guess the sun doesn't shine in Tennessee long enough everyday for him to have solar panels.

I hadn't realised that. I just knew it was rather large.
Apotheoun
When were these "offices" moved into his home? Clearly, if the offices were only recently moved into his home that might explain the increase in electrical usage, but if they have been in his home for several years now, then the question remains: Why has his electrical usage risen by ten percent? The article I was reading that referred to the offices was dated from 2007, but it didn't say when the offices were installed there. Apotheoun
I have no sympathy for Gore. My mother has emphysema and uses an oxygen concentrator and must keep the temperature between 70 and 72 degrees during the summer or she has difficulty breathing, and the public utility in California has told her to raise her thermostat anyway.
