geauxsaints26
I disapprove, but most of congress has georgophobia. So, when you take out FearFactor like Joe Rogan says you get a pretty average congress.

You're the only one, huh? Congress' approval rating has been consistently lower than Bush's ever since his second term. That's saying a lot considering how low his is. kujo
I thought the Democrats were going to "clean up" Washington, "get us out" of Iraq and "fix" everything Bush had broken? Sounds like a bunch of cra.p. to me.

CatherineM
so how do we fix it?
Apotheoun
Term limits: Allow members of the House of Representatives to serve for no more than four (2 year) terms. Allow members of the Senate to serve for no more than three (6 year) terms. In addition, Congress should once again only be in session for a delimited period of time during each two year Congressional term. CatherineM
The main problem I have with term limits is that governing is very complicated. It can take awhile for a new congressmen to learn how it works, and how to do stuff. Without elder statesmen around to kind of keep things on track, more decision making actually falls into the hands of the career aides and assistants. I really want decision making to be in the hands of the people we elect, and not the bureaucrats behind the scenes. I've seen judges who will hand a clerk a file, and say to them to write the opinion themselves. I don't want that happening in the Congress or Senate. As I see it, eight years is more than enough time for a man to serve in the House of Representatives, while allowing a man to serve in the Senate for up to eighteen years allows for the development of a statesman -- although that is unlikely to actually happen in our country. The upper chamber should be the more stable of the two chambers, while the lower chamber should have more constant change in membership in order to reflect a more democratic / populist spirit. Finally, I would also return to the original manner for choosing Senators, i.e., I would have them chosen by the State legislatures again rather than by direct election, and I would do this in order to give power back to the States, which would restore the proper sense of the United States as a federal republic.
