Nihil Obstat
...Also, I should apologize. I just joined this 'phorum' today, and I don't know what's behind this "hate (don't hate, appreciate) (don't hate (don't hate, appreciate), appreciate) (don't hate (don't hate, appreciate) (don't hate (don't hate, appreciate), appreciate), appreciate)" phrase yet, so excuse me that I never use it. I've heard it about four times now. *edit* Wow, that's weird... is it an auto edit? I thought it was some massive inside joke! MissScripture
You have a good point with the monkey-see, monkey-do thing. All of my friends in high school used to be 100% pro-Bush. Now they all make fun of him like the rest of the country. It irritates me, because I have never liked Bush, and they used to gripe at me about not liking him... I don't think they knew why they liked him then, and I don't think they know why they don't like him now.
See, if people didn't like him and you actually had a reason other than the lame reasons most people have ("because he's stupid" or some variation of that, which they can't really back up) I would have no problem with them disliking him. But when people just hate him because everyone else makes fun of him, I think it reflects more poorly on them than on Bush (although most of the world seems to think that it makes them intelligent to bash on him). I just wish that the media would not present a biased opinion on things (in either direction), because it makes people mentally lazy. They are the ones who run this country, because they can convince a majority of people of a lot of different things. People hear what they are supposed to think and don't bother actually getting a balanced view of things. Nihil Obstat
I'm so glad that I've found this forum... You guys have no idea how much I like talking to people who actually know what they're talking about!! In terms of the media... isn't it true that everyone who favours left wing politics are constantly complaining that the media is right wing biased? I just think that saying that is completely ludicrous. It's hard to do anything or go anywhere without hearing "Bush is an idiot". Seems like some people need to wake up and give their heads a shake. Actually, the majority of people who are left-wing focus on bashing FOX news, specifically, because they tout themselves as being "fair and balanced" when they are obviously not. I have never found a media outlet that is "fair and balanced"... Both parties blame the other for everything... it really is annoying.
Nihil Obstat
Oh, all right. I was thinking in terms of Canada, so I assumed that things are the same in the States. The way things seem to work... people complain that the media is inherently right wing biased, but this just isn't the case. You turn on the tv and see some celebrity environmentalist campaigning to... criminalize CO2 or something crazy like that. It really is everywhere. So is the media biased? I'd say almost every aspect is biased in some way, and at the very least things even out. I'd be tempted to see a left wing bias, but that may be my own prejudice. Alycin
I think anything operated by real people is gonna be biased.
Nihil Obstat
Exactly. The trick is watching different channels if the bias is going to do your head in. Not that hard... It's very very rare to find someone who manages to appear entirely unbiased. My social teacher/t.a. can do it, and to be honest, it's sort of disconcerting. It's almost unnatural for a person to be able to do that properly. I know I can't.

iheartjp2
Approve. There, I answered the thread's question.
Justin86
I approve of Bush on some things, but not on others. I mean on terror there is no way anyone could criticize the man. On the morning of September 12, 2001 if you said the United States was not going to experience another terror attack for the next seven years everyone would have laughed at you. Bush pulled it off. As for his social policies he's terrible. I mean he has no problem raising the interests rates of hard working Americans who budget their mortgages to pay for others who are too lazy to balance a checkbook. I miss Reagan. Nihil Obstat
I don't know much about that, but from the little I've read it appears that Reagan knew how things ran. I definitely approve of how the Taliban was handled in Afghanistan. I know that issue well enough (obviously because it's a Canadian one too) and I'll always defend what was done there. Iraq though... I don't know. I just don't know all the implications of the story. Social programs I know even less about. Not the sort of thing I read in our papers. Of course for the one year I had a subscription to the Rolling Stone, every couple weeks I'd see a new headline about why Bush needs to be impeached because he hates poor people, black people, all minorities, Muslims, and anyone else that they decided was being unfairly persecuted. Fr. Bruno
Just a question to the initiator of this poll : I noticed that " disapprove " appeared twice on the screen, but no way to vot " approve ". Was this done on purpose ?
