Farsight one
Ironically, I looked around for famous people who are ex-Catholics. I found scientologists, buddhists, muslims, hindu's, kabbala, etc. And for Christians some became lutheran, calvin(an?), episcopalian. I couldn't find a SINGLE person who became baptist like Budge. She is baptist, right? Also, the rapture already happened. We missed it. It won't link that way for some reason. Here: (gah! It still won't work!) CatherineM
The only ex-Catholics I know that have become Baptist are ones who married a Baptist.
LouisvilleFan
Many, if not most, of my Baptist friends are lapsed Catholics, although for most of them it's more accurate to say they are Christians who happen to attend a Southern Baptist church. Kentucky has a strong Catholic presence and, being part of the Bible Belt, also has a strong Baptist presence. Hence, there are naturally a lot of Catholics who used to be Baptist and a lot of Baptists who used to be Catholic. I, for one, was raised Lutheran and never actually believed any of the distinctly Baptist theology (like Believer's Baptism) during the 4-5 years I attended Baptist churches. It was merely a matter of going to church with my friends, and they went to a Baptist church.
kenrockthefirst
i would have guessed there are more excatholics than merely ten percent. probably depends on how the polls are taken. they have more leave, but only cause they have more than anyone else to begin with. 25% of christisns in teh US are catholics. the other christians are wide and varying. as a percentage, i bet lutherans for example have just as much turnover, as prots are known for church skipping, it's just that 20% of a million luterhans or whatever, is a lot less than 10% of a fourth of christianity in the US. just as an example.
What's the "churn" rate in born again churches? I was "saved" by a Baptist minister, started attending both Messianic Jewish and Nazarene churches, and "visited" umpteen other born again churches before coming home to the Catholic Church. How many folks who are Catholic today were "Christians from other traditions," as we like to call them, or non-Christians altogether?
