Jnorm888
I know that the theology first came from Roman Catholic Theologians. I don't know if it came from Germany or not. But it traveled to South America, and from their to North America. And in the 1960's Jim Cone started a spin off called "Black Liberation Theology". So what are your thoughts about it. It seems as if this theology is popular at Liberal/modernist Seminaries. JNORM888
CatherineM
If you spend any time in Central or South America, it is hard to not get pulled towards it, but you have to be very careful to remember that we are supposed to save souls, and we can't do that through violence. Often Liberation Theology can lead you to want to pick up the sword.

kujo
Hasn't it been condemned by the Church?
CatherineM
I think it needs to be refocused. I think Benedict is trying to do that in part with his new emphasis on evangelization. I'm not sure the entire idea of Liberation Theology has been condemned, only those parts or people who have gone over the line.
Jnorm888
What's the name of that Roman Catholic Priest from Chicago? The one that just got in trouble from his Cardinal. Isn't he into Liberation Theology? JNORM888
Galloglasses
It's Heresy. Basically Marxism infiltrating Christian Theology. (Playing heavily off of the basic social and moral parralels Catholicism and Socialism have...VERY basic, then expanding on that) I think it started in Haiti or Cuba, or one of those Carribean Islands, i can't remember. Please note I'm speaking as an Iriah Republican, nominally a socialist, (though I'm having serious issues with my affiliate party), so I'm trying not to be biased towards it. Socrates
Marxist socialism gussied up in "Christian" garb. Rightfully condemned.

TeresaBenedicta
I honestly don't know much about it. I have been told by numerous reliable sources that it's NOT GOOD and should be stayed away from. I should probably do a little bit of research on it, so I'm not relying completing on other people's testimonies.

And keeping in mind that Liberation Theology spinning off of Marxist socialism, Pope Ben did address the errors of Marx and others in his last encyclical.
