Hail Mary

I always try to convey what I'm feeling and what I need to ask of God in actual words, but that doesn't always work out. I know He understands what I'm trying to convey to him, but I still like to try and make the effort. :)

I have noticed lately, though, that when I go to say a prayer for someone, and it's a major thing, the first thing I can think of is to say a Hail Mary. It's just so great and original and sincere every single time, and I when I say that prayer, I can also hear myself praying/thinking what I would have tried to say anyways.

I just thought I'd say that. :)

I think everyone has their own little something that opens up the gates to prayer for them. Hail Mary is a beautiful way to do it.
Mine is to call upon the Holy Spirit to aid me in my prayer cuz I am such a dork with spoken word. I can write prayers so go figure?

I suppose we should each take what we can get, right? :)

The Hail Mary is a great prayer to say when you can't think of what to say and even when you can think of what to say. Mary's intercession for us is such a wonderful thing.

Saying the Hail Mary or the Our Father are timeless. That is what is so beautiful about the Rosary. To be able to meditate and pray those prayers and offer us so many intentions. It is kind of divine, isnt' it?
I am just getting hooked on the Rosary now.

Same here... in fact, I think I started saying it in the midst of a weird nightmare once where I felt surrounded by demons...and then I woke up and the bed started shaking in reality. I continued the Hail Mary's... Eventually, the Hail Mary made it stop. Later, we got that place Enthroned.

What does it mean to have something or somewhere Enthroned?

Basically, it's a sort of ceremony that is done in someone's house by a priest. It's full title is Enthronement to the Sacred Heart of Jesus.

http://www.catholicculture.org/liturgicaly...view.cfm?id=430

It was suggested by my spiritual director priest, who did the enthronement himself. I just saw on that link that one should receive Communion on the day of Enthronement, but we didn't do that. And he never told us to prepare a "throne" in advance, so we didn't have much of an "altar" set up. We did, however, notice a different sort of peace in the atmosphere immediately after the traditional ceremony was conducted. I felt comforted that he went around sprinkling holy water all around the apartment after the bed-shaking incident, that's for sure!

One time, my husband was praying (or about to start praying?) in the room that had the shaking bed in it, and the picture of the Sacred Heart of Jesus started vibrating on the wall, but it didn't scare or alarm him like the shaking bed incident did to me. If I recall correctly, that happened *after* the enthronement, like God was trying to communicate. Pennsylvania isn't exactly known for its earthquakes either, so it's a bit bizarre.

We don't live there anymore, but if things like that start to happen here, hopefully we'll find a great priest who'd be willing to do it again (and not omit anything). :D

Thank you for the story and the definition and link.

And thank you for sharing your unique perspective on why the Hail Mary is so wonderful to you. You put it into words well. I'm not sure why I have gravitated to it first myself in some situations; maybe it's because my real faith journey began with a pull toward the Blessed Mother. It was a quiet pull, and she has always been pointing to God...that's Mary for you :)

i'd like to share something out of the Fulton Sheen book i'm reading right now (Seven Words of Jesus and Mary: Lessons on Cana and Calvary):
If you have never before prayed to Mary, do so now. Can you not see that if Christ himself willed to be physically formed in her for nine months and then be spiritually formed by her for thirty years, it is to her that we must go to learn how to have Christ formed in us? Only she who raised Christ can raise a Christian.
True story!

I have to say, the first time I prayed to her was a big change in my faith as well. My random visits to our local parish became a much bigger place of comfort and necessity after the first time I lit a candle at Mary's alter and said a prayer for someone.
