Priest mocks Clinton as feeling entitled to nomination because she is white
CHICAGO - Sen. Barack Obama sought Thursday night to extinguish a burgeoning controversy over another Chicago minister who supports him, denouncing the comments of a Catholic priest who said “a whole lot of white people [are] crying” because a black man was within reach of the Democratic presidential nomination.

The remarks by the Rev. Michael Pfleger, a white minister known as “Chicago’s renegade priest” for his liberal social activism in the city’s black community, came from the pulpit of Trinity United Church of Christ, the same church where sermons by the Rev. Jeremiah Wright came under scrutiny from critics who called them anti-American and racially divisive.

Pfleger, pastor of predominantly black St. Sabina’s Catholic Church, who fiercely defended Wright even as Obama eventually rejected his support, sounded similar themes Sunday in a guest sermon at Wright’s church.
With all do respect to his office as a Catholic priest, I'm going to keep my comment(s) as respectful as possible. Why hasn't the Archdiocese of Chicago done anything in regards to this priests' behavior? Also, how does this "sermon" (in the complete butcher of the word) actually fill one's soul, to grow closer to God, and to spread the Good News? I despise churches that are nothing but racial-political rallies, who slap a label on themselves as "Christians" and act like a bunch of screaming lunatics. This is how we get such a bad rep, as Christians, because of this garbage.

Among a LOT of other things. I have lots of non-Christian friends, and not one lists (at least to me) situations like the above being a reason for their extreme disdain of Christianity.

Interesting. I apologize for the wording there, I didn't mean to imply that it was 'thee' reason, just that how such lunatic behavior is really the undoing of being truthful witnesses of the Faith.

Usually with those I associate with at work, it's about how hypocritical Christians can be. My co-workers hear about how we Christians are suppost to be doing our best to love our neighbor, but on Sunday afternoon, all the grumpy church people come in with this attitude.

Church people are some of the worst customers to work with in the restaurant business, right after Sunday service. Don't ask me why, but that's just the way it is. Maybe they use all their Jesus juice up at church, and then indulge in the 'sins of the flesh' while they rip apart a 12oz ribeye.

Note: Most of those I've talked with understand that we, as Christians, are human beings as well with our own strengths and weaknesses, so they don't expect us to always be in jipper of moods; however, they do have a problem when there is a 'holier-than-thou', aka 'superiority' attitude that radiates from these church goers (who can be very impatient, hard to work with, and complain about everything).

This Priest also called Louis Farrakhan, "a gift from God to a sick, sick world." I think this is the first time since I came back to the church that I have been so saddened by the actions of a Priest.
I think maybe he needs reassignment to say, a mission in Haiti?

They should determine if he has any faculties. I shall pray for him.

Anyone that thinks Farrakhan is anything but a supporter of slavery and teetotal nutjob should be whipped with possum tails.

The church needs to come down hard on this guy.
I suppose once it gets drummed up all over the nation and in the news, they will. I hope.

Malachi Crunch

This priest reminds me of the excommunicated priest from Washington D.C., George A. Stallings Jr., who started his own church. He is still a central religious figure in the nation's captial years after his seperation from the Church. He was a strong and outspoken advocate for African American civil rights and highly critical of the Church. Now we don't know if Fr. Pfleger is critical of the Church, but he seems to be knee deep in activist type activities, which is a little rare for priests.

Has Fr. Pfleger said, or done, anything in contradiction to Church teaching? I don't know if a Bishop can punish a Priest just because he disagrees with the Priest's opinions, unless those opinions are contradictory to the faith. When a Bishop gives an imprimatur, for example, the imprimatur states that the Bishop does not necessarily agree with the opinions in the book, only that there is nothing in the book which contradicts faith and morals. Unless Fr. Pfleger contradicts Church teaching (in word or in deed), I don't know if there is much that the Archdiocese can do.
