dUSt
"Mel Gibson has come under attack again - this time from animal rights activists who are furious he's raising animals for meat at his beef cattle ranch in Columbus, Montana. The Passion Of The Christ director - whose movie has sparked a flurry of controversy among religious groups who fear it will create anti-Semitism - has angered the People For The Ethical Treatment Of Animals (PETA), who claim it's immoral for Christians to raise and kill "God's creatures" for food. Peta, who on Tuesday staged a day-long demonstration outside his Beartooth Ranch, picketed a screening of the movie at the UA Union Square Theatre in New York last night. The protest featured a 10-foot "Jesus On Stilts", and a stash of leaflets about "Christianity and Vegetarianism". The rep says, "We're saying 'Thou shalt not kill' to Mel Gibson. We're just saying people who oppose violence and injustice should extend that compassion to all God's creatures, and adopting a vegetarian diet is the best way to do that." How dumb. I'm sure the "Jesus on stilts" was REALLY affective.

Joseph
It's funny that Jesus multiplied the FISH and loaves for the people to eat.....if He didn't want them to eat meat, don't you think he would have given them something else? Also, doesn't Jesus eat a piece of fish sometime after the resurrection?

Iacobus
I hate PETA. Do they really think doing this type of stuff does anything. Last Advent they had an anti-meat billborad with the Virgin Mary on it. Two or three years ago they had an Easter Card that had an image of a blood covered Christ holding a butchared calf. What good does that do them, now they just have Catholics and Christians hating them. Once they came to Rockford to protest a circus, all they did sae sit naked, painted like a leopard, in a cage on the sidewalk with an anti-circus sign. So the Jesus on stilts doesnt suprise me. Those people have problems.

Good Friday
I don't think PETA does have any official stance on abortion, but many in Hollywood who support PETA are also pro-abortion. I'm sure this is the case among most members of PETA, especially since PETA also opposes scientific testing on animals -- testing that could save lives from horrible diseases. They would have you believe they're pro-life, but anyone who puts the life of an animal over the life of a human being can't possibly be called pro-life. Yes, surely it's bad to senselessly kill God's creatures. But Scripture makes abundantly clear that we can kill them for food, and that they do not have the same kind of dignity that human beings are endowed with. Obviously, it would be bad, I'd imagine even a sin, to just randomly kill an animal because you felt like it. That's not why God created them. But to kill for food -- yeah, He created some of them for that. They shouldn't distort the Bible to support their non-Biblical views. As for Mel Gibson, this is just another case of secularism striking out against Christianity. PETA is just another of the many liberal/secular organizations opposing Gibson and his movie for one reason or the other, when the real reason is clear to us: they're under the influence of Satan, who has always opposed Christ's Passion and Death. We should be glad they're opposed to the movie, that means Satan finds it particularly threatening to his goals. Meanwhile, if we think this persecution is only going to confine itself to Gibson, we're fooling ourselves.

smeagol
i agree, we should be always be fighting for life! we should always strive to give a voice to the voiceless! somebody has to be a voice for animals too and i am quite thankful that there is such an organization as PETA to bravely do this. they're not evil because they fight for animal life instead of fighting for human life. am i evil for studying political science, history, and philosophy instead of donating my entire life to the prolife cause? of course not. i think it's totally unfair to say "if you're doing anything other than fighting against abortion, you're evil." there are all kinds of injustices in this world. instead of saying that some PETA members may be prochoice so the whole organization is evil, let us thank them for their prolife stance with animals. we shouldn't condemn those who fight against the ills of our society, instead let's commend them. wouldn't that be the Christian thing to do ? pigs are killed by having their skulls bashed into the concrete ground. chickens live their whole life without having enough space to spread their wings even once. baby cattle are castrated and branded without any painkillers. although abortion is oh so very much worse than this, these acts are nonetheless still wrong and we should be thankful instead of hateful to PETA and others who stand up in the name of justice and LIFE. edit: thanks, flowergirl for the link to those abortion pictures. they are quite moving. --- they're under the influence of Satan, who has always opposed Christ's Passion and Death. We should be glad they're opposed to the movie, that means Satan finds it particularly threatening to his goals. i didn't know PETA was against the movie. forgive me for being ignorant on this, but is there a link you can provide me? --- it is important to realize that they're not fighting for animal rights at the expense of human life. while they urge that people should consider being vegetarians, they want us to realize the cruelty that animals needlessly go through before they reach our dinner table. although we think it's okay to eat meat, we all have to agree that it's not okay to be brutishly and needlessly cruel to them in the process. and PETA thankfully is standing up in the name of justice and life. forgive me for not seeing how this is an evil organization. Aloysius
God gave us animals for food and clothing and companionship. I LOVE MEAT. JESUS LOVED MEAT. JESUS ATE MEAT. GOD COMMANDED SACRIFICES OF ANIMALS. GOD HAS NO PROBLEM WITH KILLING ANIMALS IF THERE IS A PURPOSE!!!!! they obsess over animals, and go TOO far in protection of animals. animals SHOULD NOT have the same rights as humans, and peta seems to think they should. animals do not have immortal souls, they were not created in the image and likeness of God. they are God's gift to us, of course we shouldn't abuse it but KILLING THEM IS NOT ABUSING THEM, in fact, God commanded the killing of them at many times in the old testament and never had anything against killing them for food. to go vegitarien because it's immoral not to be vegitarian calls our Lord and Savior immoral in your eyes. there's no need to be vegitarian, unless you don't like the taste of meat.
