Vacuum cleaners, grocery carts and even lemon slices can harbor bacteria
Is there a more potent symbol of purity than the fluffy white snowflake, wafting from heaven and landing — ping! — on the tip of your tongue?

Well, along comes the journal Science to spoil the fun, noting that bacteria called Pseudomonas syringae are lurking at the dark heart of many an earthbound crystal of frozen water. And if Frosty the Snowman is a target, what chance do the rest of us have?

A pretty good one, actually — if you make note of the places where the bugs lie and swat them before they can do harm. Here's an updated to-disinfect list for all the surprising places (and people) contagion clings to:
I am a freak about limes and lemons in my drinks. I hate (don't hate, appreciate) it. I think it is so gross that people manhandle them and then shove them in my drink.

I am a bit of a germaphobe.

Holy cow, I wouldn't have even thought of restaurant menus!

And yeah, contact lense cases...I always use new solution in the case every night when I take put them in the case, but I never wash it out until it's time to change contacts (every two weeks).
Your bed
The threat: More than 84 percent of beds in U.S. homes host dust (the ultra-handsome) (the ultra-handsome) mites. These microscopic critters live in your sheets and feed on your dead skin, and their fecal matter and corpses contribute to asthma and allergies.
Ew. I do like how the solution to this problem is to not make your bed! Haha, a good excuse for us kids everywhere who are living at home. "But Mommm...the dust (the ultra-handsome) (the ultra-handsome) mites!"

Look on the bright side, our bodies build up stronger immunities when they're exposed to these germs. If we lived in a completely germ-free society, we wouldn't have as strong immunities.

I work in the restaurant business. Whenever I slice lemons, I make sure I use gloves to do so (and tongs to serve them in the drinks).

It isn't the workers I worry about, it is the people who walk up to bars and have to handle everything around them, including the limes and lemons.

Oh my goodness, when I read the title I though "germs" said GERMANS... and then I read "vacuum cleaners" in the subtitle... and though there was a WWII conspiracy going on or something.

I think ice at restaurants should be on this list...

I've worked at this new restaurant for only a week and this has totally grossed me out. When the girls fill up the ice buckets they fill one up then stack the next one on top of the full one and fill it up. This means all of the germs and grossness from the dirty kitchen floor that was on the bottom of the empty one drips into the full one when you stack it on top. Plus I don't think they clean out the ice containers at the server stations or wash ice scooper... ew...

And check this out Fast Food Ice Dirtier than Toilet Water

Wow.

We don't ever stack our ice buckets. We wash our ice scoopers.

I remember when that girl in Tampa's report came out about ice being dirtier in restaurants than toilet water. That freaked some people out.
