I did run the upgrade. It went very smooth. If only Windows upgraded that nicely.
mommas_boy
My linux box is having problems with my video card -- an ATI Raden 9800 Mobility. Apparently the kernel module isn't compiling properly. I'll post some details when I get back home ... can't seem to debug it myself.
jeffpugh
*sigh* I'll hold of Linux for now... my internet smells of elderberries here so downloading an image isn't an option, and updating might fail cause they limit bandwidth at times... I need an experimental machine... maybe. I'll save that for a summer project ETA Also, I don't wanna just slap linux on my lappy here at school cause I like the convenient 1 OS load... my Wyndoesbauchs still boots up fast Edited November 6, 2008 by Sacred Music Man
Lounge Daddy
Guess I should be thankful that my upgrade went flawlessly. I wouldn't have wanted problems distracting me from NaNoWriMo

I'm curious to see what happens first: Google Releases their Chrome bowser for Linux, or Chromium becomes functional enough to be practical for day-to-day usage. jeffpugh
Let's hope for Google, eh. Best to get the product from the source.
Lounge Daddy
Wow. Some updates for Intrepid has my wireless running better than ever. When I first upgraded my connection was occasionally dropping off. But now it's running better than when I was running Hardy.
jeffpugh
Okay, Okay. I'll check this distro out. Any way I can find out if my lappy is supported as for drivers?

Or are you just going to stick with Hardy until the next release? Maybe there is no need to switch, eh? If it ain't broken...

If it ain't broken...[/quote] Hmm. Good idea on the LiveCD later. I wish that I had done that every other time before I installed a new version of Ubuntu to see what broke. How often do they update the software on the ISO image though, I wonder. The software in the repos may have had the problem fixed, but that doesn't mean that the ISO was updated ... The problem is with the new X.org that Intrepid shipped default. The drivers for my video card (the proprietary ATI drivers) were not updated in order to match the new version of X.org. And since the source is closed and held by ATI, we can't write them ourselves. We're at their mercy. I hate closed source software ... so I had to use the friggin' VESA driver for graphics. So slow. Even normal tasks, without 3D, were difficult to accomplish in any reasonable time. Still can't figure out what the deal is with the wireless, though.
