Okay. Thanks guys... L D--nice desktop. I had that wallpaper once ^_^

Now, that situation I gave was hypothetical... still planning to fix the 20gig... somehow. Maybe I'll just go buy one... <_< or just... better yet... get me a blank ASUS laptop and load ubuntu studio on it. or just go notebook... choices choices... why is even choosing a computer and OS (for school) so difficult?

/random inner thoughts and feelings about my experimentation with computers...
SMM, you'll also need to update your /etc/fstab since it will still be pointing to the UUID for your old partition.
Oh, I forgot that step. I'm so used to the heavy manualing that I had to do on Gentoo and FreeBSD, where we didn't have fancy things like UIUDs to trouble with. Honestly, I don't understand their purpose at all, apart from further confusing n00bs. Whatever happened to the nice and easy: "/dev/hda#" in the fstab?

Yeah, I know what you mean. The first time I ran into UUIDs I really didn't see any benefit. I think they really are meant to make things easier but that's not always the case. I once was using a secondary hard drive and I decided to do some clean up because of the junk on it, so I went ahead and formatted it and then partitioned it just like I had it previously setup. I forgot the UUID changed so I ran into a little snag when I tried to boot again. It's easy enough to fix, but just a different way than I'm used to thinking about it. Now if I physically changed the connections for my hard drives without messing around with the partitions, I suppose the UUIDs would make it easier in that case. The nice thing is that you can still use the old format in the fstab file if you want.

Heck with it. I got nothin important on the 4 gig to transfer over. it was mostly experimentation anyways. Just curious if it could be done.

Btw no one but L D like my joke?

Oh, L D... I need you to do me a favour... could you test out Finale Notepad on Ubuntu Studio? I need to see if Finale will emulate well, meaning sounds happen when you click notes on the page, and that there's playback. i couldn't get it working on heron.

Sure! I'll take a look at it sometime this weekend. :)

Btw, I've been going going to GetDeb.net lately and checking out some of the games. I recently checked out SMC, which is a great Mario Bros clone. It's actually quite a lot of fun (maybe more fun than Mario Bros?), and runs great. I am currently trying out Assault Cube; a very smooth and straightforward fps.

The website is worth a check. It's like tu-cows for Deb packages.

Oh, one thing about the GetDeb site for any first timers. When you wanna install a program, take a look at the download screen and you will see the regular "download: program" followed by another link that reads "program.data"
You probably will need to run the install for the ".data" package first, and then the regular program install after. I was scratching my head at first wondering why the package wouldn't install after I clicked the first link. ;)

Oh croutons, SMM. I'm sorry--I removed Ubuntu Studio. I had decided that I needed to use some things in Vista for college and I re-installed it on my notebook and then installed generic Ubuntu on another partition. I totally forgot to give that program a spin first!

Forgive me... ? :)

It's okay. I just got a new laptop for school today. It's an MSI PR600.... basically core 2 duo, 1 gig of ram, 160gb hdd (something like that). its nice. i migrated to Studio right away. It's sweet. It runs Finale Notepad 2007 perfectly (which i had trouble getting working w/ my desktop). I can run Warcraft 3, but strangely i have to crank down the graphics... ima talk to a friend about the problem. Starcraft wont let me go on battle.net... and... uhh... yeah. that's it. i might put Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory on. I might not. But, for sure, I have no "limit" to hard drive space, unless i do a ton of recording audio. Ill be doing that frequently cause I can carry it to my piano(s) :P. Woot woot for Linux! It's beautiful when it works the way you want it to.
