My Review Of The Passion

Hello Pham,

I just got home about 30 mins ago from watching the greatest movie of all time.

Words cannot describe how moving I felt when watching this. But i'll try.

Sadness, anger, thankfulness, hope, awe.

Some say its too gory, I say, when it happened it might have looked just like this if not worse.

I have a better understanding of the relationship Mary had with Jesus. I found myself saying a few Hail Mary's as I watched and Our Fathers.

There was crying everywhere. A lady that was upfront got up and walked out sobbing really hard, only to come back when she calmed down.

My heart is overcome with both saddness and joy. Jesus took this upon Himself for US!! And the suffering He went through...oh the suffering. :sadder:

Praise be Jesus Christ - Now and Forever!

There was more to put..but its getting late. Sorry I wasnt more open about it.

At times I feel hopeless, caught up in my vices. By watching this movie, praying and trusting in what Christ has done for me, I feel I can over come.

If you sometimes feel hopeless, caught up in your vices even now. This movie will move you to change.

Please, fellow Catholics and brother protestants, take this Lenten time to get closer to Christ. Fast, give alms, and pray. We only have 39 more days.

May God Bless you and Mary keep you by Her side and lead you to Christ.

Ash Wednesday

Parts of the movie truly did move me to tears, though I have to admit that I struggle with biblical movies. It's like when people have a hard time watching a movie after "reading the book," if you know what I mean.

I guess I struggle with such a huge concept of humanity and salvation being squeezed into a single movie. But then again maybe it's just my wierd artistic sensitivities, as I've always "used my imagination." Putting the Passion in a single movie is probably the most difficult artistic task there is and I commend Mel's bravery.

It was so good to see this devotional movie to see before attending Ash Wednesday mass. It certainly brought the passion to life better than any other biblical movie probably would (I must admit I haven't seen many others)

The parts that touched me most were Peter's denial and when he was crying before Mary, Mary Magdalene who was going to get stoned to death, the correlation of where the Blessed Mother and Satan were both walking opposite each other following Jesus on the way to Calvary (that was powerful!!) and most of all, when they were driving in the nails and Jesus was crying "they don't know!" I mean that was just a heart wrencher.

As for the anti-semitism thing, I view the movie as being pretty neutral. I can understand why some people would be concerned, because much of the high priests were pretty odious creatures. But at the same time, one of the high priests had sympathy for Jesus, as did Simon who helped Jesus carry his cross. Someone coming into the movie with anti Semitic feelings will leave the movie with the same feelings. Someone coming into this movie having no qualms against the Jews will leave feeling the same way. I certainly don't think the movie itself would be to blame.

I will definitely make a point of seeing it again, hopefully on Good Friday. Again I struggle with biblical films, but this one did increase my awareness and devotion, so in that respect I give it mucho props and I know so many people are going to love it. The more and more I sit and process it, the more I realize that "Passion" truly is a gift.

The parts that touched me the most is when Mary layed on the ground and senses Jesus right below her, and also, when Jeus raises the bread during the last supper and it switches to a shot of him being raised on the cross... it was a powerful way of showing the Real Presence and Holy sacrifice of the mass. Every time the priest at mass washes his hands and consecrates the bread, I'll have the images of Jesus being raised on the cross...

Shoot. I could barely hold the waterworks back for the Garden scene. And I didn't have to try hard to hold back tears on my wedding day. This movie is the work of God. There are no words to completely cover all the aspects of it.

I wanted to mention something that I thought you guys would be amuzed at. I promised God I wouldn't get mad, so this isn't out of anger. Just to let you know.

During the last half hour of the movie this guys cell phone kept ringing. But in my frustration the thought occured to me: It wouldn't be a REAL Mass without someones cell phone going off.

I went to a local theatre and saw it. The theatre owner warned the 100% compact crowd in that small theatre, "If any of you have cell phones, shut them off now! Or you will be kicked out."

Everyone cheered lol.

Someone had a laser pointer in the theatre I watched it in. The manager came in (this is before the movie started) and threatened to take the laser pointer away and kick them out without a refund--after his announcement people cheered. After the applause someone yelled out "and the same thing goes for cell phones", and people cheered again.

But then again, the audience cheered after the movie ended too. I guess it was just a big ol' cheery bunch.
